I live with my husband of almost 20 years and three children ages 13-18. We enjoy when my husband BBQs and takes us out for our traditional Sunday breakfast-lunch. South Texas is beautiful any time of the year. My husband helps manage the shipping department of a Citrus company and I work in an elementary school.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cakes. All my recipes come from allrecipes.com. I love it when friends ask for the recipes. They are always surprised to be introduced to recipes online. When someone needs a special cake they come to me and that always makes my day.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Most special to our family is our Good Friday Lunch. It always was a Holy reunion for my mother(+). Next is Easter cook-out, Thanksgiving(every one pitches in a different dish and its a formal mid-day dinner) and finally Christmas Eve(making tamales all morning)and ending the celebration early Christmas Day because we still have the other side of the family to include. I come from a large family of 9 brothers and sisters, all married; lost count on all those nephews and nieces. Oh! every year the get togethers are at a different family HOME.
My cooking triumphs
-A strawberry cake for a co-worker.
-My capirotada on Good Friday and any time of year my kids want a special dessert.
-Seven differnt cakes for a yearly fundraiser always get me compliments
My cooking tragedies
-Menudo(beef tripe), I can never get the right taste even with to-the-letter expert advise
-Cabrito(goat)guisado, a delicatessen in North Mexico and South Texas. My husband is an expert on the grilled kind.
