About this Cook
I'm mother to a 23-year-old daughter, have 2 step-sons, ages 22 and 24, and am "grammie" to a 2-year-old. (my husband is "poppy"...how cute. He came up with our names on his own!) I'm a registered nurse, and am applying to graduate school to be a nurse practitioner. I've been in Virginia Beach for 23 years, and have been married for 7 years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't know if this would be considered a cooking tradition, but my husband and I grocery shop for a month at one time (saves money in the long run). The day before grocery shopping day, I start searching allrecipes.com and my cook books. I make a menu for 1 month, and write my shopping list from the menu. I tend to buy just what I need, and I never have to decide in the morning before work what I'm going to cook for dinner. That, in itself, is a blessing.

Italian Chicken Bow Tie Pasta
I've made this before, except I put in sauteed yellow squash and zucchini, and sauteed mushrooms with the tomatoes. Mmm, excellent!!

Cavatini II
Excellent, definitely going in the monthly rotation. The only things I did a little differently is in the sauce I used a 26-oz jar of marinara sauce with 1 can of fire-roasted diced tomatoes instead of a 32 oz jar of spagetti sauce. I also used 1-1/2 cups of rigatoni, and 1-1/2 cups of tri colored rotini, and left out the elbow macaroni. I also threw in a splash of milk in the pasta and cheese to make it a little creamier and a little less sticky. Very very good. Thanks for the recipe.

Penne with Shrimp
I made a similar recipe I found on this site, which called for fire-roasted diced tomatoes. Try them. They may be hard to find, but without them, this dish is a bit bland.
