About this Cook
I'm a college student in the Midwest United States studying music performance on cello. I also play on the drumline at my university and I am trying to pick up a double major with history. I was given the assignment of cooking for the family this summer and I'm doing my best to come up with creative recipes that even a picky eater like me will find edible.
My favorite things to cook
Simple penuche (a bunch of melted sugar and butter the way I make it). Otherwise I'd rather be eating something than cooking it. haha.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm left out of all of the holiday cooking loops except for pumpkin pie at Halloween and a cinnamon apple cider at Thanksgiving.
My cooking triumphs
Chicken Milano -- a friend and I spent an hour in the kitchen slopping things, frying others, running to the grocery store, and heaping up messy pans but eventually we emerged with God's Gift to the dinner table.
My cooking tragedies
Baking brownies without the mysterious "oleo" ingredient. Turns out it's rather important. Also, don't try to make instant pudding with water when the recipe calls for milk...

Baked Ziti II
My friends and I often halve this recipe and make it in the dorms because it is so simple and yet tasty! We haven't ever made it with ricotta cheese because that kind of cheese is difficult to acquire but we substitute in "italian" blends and mozzarella and the recipe works out great!

Homemade Focaccia Bread
This was an easy and simple bread to make. It tasted great straight out of the oven -- almost like breadsticks! The next day however it was not particularly great. Still, I will probably make it the next time I am hosting any friends with an italian entree!
