I have always had an interest in cooking. My Great Granny was a famous chef in Vancouver and even though I never had the chance to get to know her well; what I do know is that she was the only person who held our family together. I only hope to become just like her by recreating her annual family dinners...one day.
My favorite things to cook
I don't really have any single favorite, I like to cook many things but in general I like to make simple healthy meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was little I remember large family dinners with my Great Granny. It was manditory to be there and she invited everyone! The dinners were always held in her little apartment, it was always crowded. My cousins and I used to play on the floor and we'd sneak treats while all the adults were talking around the table.
My cooking triumphs
My verison of "Chicken Broccoli and Cheese" casserole that is my favorite meal at a resturant called White Spot. I make it differently than the orignal but i like mine better.
My cooking tragedies
I decided to bake a cake for my boyfriend for his birthday. I thought i'd be creative and use hot fudge instead of icing and then just write "happy birthday" with one of those already made tube of white icing...well, i was in a hurry and i thought the fudge had cooled cause it was hard and glossy so i started writing "happy birthday" across the top of the cake but it started smearing, so in a panic i shoved it in the fridge for it to cool and forgot about it. After we ate the lasagne my boyfriend, Warren, went to get another drink and saw it in all its' glory...."blappy Rlthday" is what it ended up looking like. It tasted great but every bite was embarassing.
