Vegan Split Pea Soup II

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Not a bad recipe. Tasted great and everyone liked it. Used green split peas but otherwise followed it exactly. Liked the curry, but it still needed some seasoning. Added pepper, onion powder and garlic powder for more flavor. Will make again with the added seasoning. LOVE the idea that it is a tasty...vegetarian...split pea soup.

Sausage and Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I thought this recipe was alright, but my kids all RAVED about it, so it gets 5 stars. We made it with gimme lean vegetarian sausage and rice milk, due to dietary neccesities. We put it together in the am before school and ate if for dinner. I made a double batch and there were no leftovers. We will definitely make it again.

Slow Cooker Apple-Scented Venison Roast

Made exactly as written. This is the best venison recipe I have ever cooked. The meat literally fell off the bone. Definitely a keeper.

All the kids loved this recipe and fought over the leftovers the next day. Made it as directed, minus the mushrooms. Definitely a keeper.

Crispy Barbequed Tofu Slices

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
For taste this gets 5 stars. My kids would have given it more stars if they could. Everyone loved it! But I doubt I will make this again, as it was a ton of work to make and clean up after preparing them.

Jamaican Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2009
All seven family members ate them and asked for more...that is a 5-star recipe in my book. I did omit peppers (I know misses the point of the recipe, but the kids won't eat spicy food), added extra of the seasonings to taste. Working into patties just fine (the little ones loved helping with that, since it was a bit messy). Fried up great, no egg needed. Definitely a keeper. Thank you!

Bermuda Spinach Salad

Reviewed: May 9, 2009
We made this for our project on Bermuda at our International Day Fair and it was a hit! Due to dietary restrictions I used vegetarian bacon and agave instead of sugar. The recipe was delicious. I have never seen my kids so eager to eat more spinach! For that alone, I would give it more stars if I could. This is definitely a keeper!

Fresh Frozen Cucumbers

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
These cucumbers were a bit too sweet for me, but my family loves them, especially my husband. I did substitute Agave, for the sugar, as we can not eat refined sugar. They were easy to make and came out great. Thanks for a neat way to use up some of the abundance of garden cucumbers.

Maple Dill Carrots

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
I thought this recipe was a bit sweet for me, but my kids, husband and parents loved it. I substituted Rapadura for the brown sugar, as we can not eat refined sugar. It was easy to make and tasty. Thank you for a "keeper" recipe.

Cod Fish Cakes

We LOVE these fish cakes! We will never eat "store bought" again. I follow the recipe exactly. I have used different kinds of fish, depending what is on sale. We have pan fried and deep fried them. Every way we have made them, they are delicious. Thank you for the GREAT recipe!

Lazy Golumbkis

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2008
I decided to take a chance, despite the other reviews, and see if my rice would cook, but it simply would not. We ate it, even though the rice was a bit "crunchy", and the rest was "mushy", but I will not make this recipe again. Since we liked the taste of the ingredients together, I may try a different version.

Classic Stuffed Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
Everyone raved at my stuffing this year, thanks to this recipe! I tripled the batch, and omitted the mushrooms (the kids don't like them). One batch I used for stuffing the turkey. The other two I made into dry stuffing, one plain as per the recipe, one with vegetarian sausage, dried cranberries and walnuts. All three were wonderful. Thank you for a great recipe...this one is definitely a "keeper".

Thyme Green Beans with Almonds

I cooked these up as a change from our usual green beans and almonds recipe. I followed the recipe exactly. Everyone loved them. Mom wants me to make them again next year. Thank you for a great recipe.

Lemon Zucchini and Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2008
We were a bit sceptical, but I had all the ingredients on hand, and an abundance of cucumbers and zucchinis from the garden, so we gave it a try. The salad was very easy to make and it was delicious! I did make two minor changes...I peeled the zucchini and I add a bit of mince garlic. The touch of lemon flavor mixed with the strong taste of the balsamic vinegar are interesting and really very tasty. We will definitely make this one often but next time we need a double batch because this batch was gone in minutes!

Pina Colada Cake III

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2008
I used a homemade cake recipe instead of the boxed cake mix, (which we can not use due to allergies), but otherwise follow the recipe. It was good, but not great. I will try it again, adding more pinapple and maybe some coconut to the cake batter. What saved the recipe for us is that we served it with pinapple/coconut ice cream which pulled all the flavors together.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
Simple, tasty recipe. I make it exactly as written. I gave it 4 stars simply because the garlic seemed to me to overpower the cauliflower. My kids all liked it, though, so we will definitely be using this recipe again.

Orzo and Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
Thank you for this recipe. My dd has developed an allergy to MSG, among other things, but loves rice pilaf. I used this recipe in an attempt to replace the boxed kind we used to use, and it was SO much better. We all loved it. The only change I made was to use all vegetable broth (we are vegetarians) instead of water. Thanks again for a great recipe!

Eggless Egg Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2008
I love this recipe. I use it as a starter for "eggless salad" and add some nayonaise and spices to the flavor I like. The best thing about this recipe for me is that it is perfect to use on tofu that is at its "use by date". I cook it up quickly, then make the salad the next day.
