Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
These rolls are super easy to make and turned out beautifully. I prepared the dough in my Kitchenaid mixer and left it in the mixer bowl to rise before shaping in to rolls. Other reviewers suggested adding some sugar. I added about 1/3 cup white sugar to help out the yeast. Otherwise, no alterations are necessary. I tightly wrapped the leftovers in foil and they were tasty the next day.

Strawnana Bread

Gotta say I am a little disappointed in this recipe. The strawberry flavor is nearly undetectable. Perhaps banana is just too overpowering for the berries.

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
Yummy! I doubled the recipe and added white chocolate chips. I also dropped in about 3/4 cup of shredded coconut. Used a 9x13 pyrex baking dish and baked for about 45 minutes. Super good.

Zucchini Patties

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
Are you looking for a different way to enjoy zucchini? Give this a try. Great flavors and so easy to make. I rarely deviate from the original recipe on my first try. But, I couldn't resist adding about a tablespoon of minced garlic. I also sauteed the patties in olive oil. My garden keeps producing zucchini so I will be making this again.

Seven Layer Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2009
I have made this salad for two potlucks this summer. I took a shortcut & used bagged iceberg lettuce salad (includes carrot and red cabbage) rather than clean and shred a head of lettuce. No other changes are necessary as this is great just as written. Try using a clean plastic bowl with snap on lid to make it easy for carry-ins. Love it!

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I will confirm the title of this recipe. These turned out pretty doggone fantastic. I added a scoop of white chocolate chips just to get them out of the pantry. Otherwise, I made no alterations to the recipe. They cookies turned out great and two days later are just as yummy.

Italian Love Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
My cake turned out just like the photo! This is so easy to make and well worth the effort. I used Duncan Hines devil's food cake mix and part skim ricotta cheese. I covered and refrigerated the unfrosted cake overnight adding the topping just before serving. The slices came out perfectly. The cake could be dressed up with chocolate curls, sliced strawberries or raspberries. This was a big hit with us.

Hasselback Potatoes

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
I confess to not being much of a baked potato fan, but this recipe intrigued me. I prepared the recipe as written and got great results. I placed the potatoes in a corning dish with lid for the first 40 minutes. Then, removed the lid for the second baking period after adding the cheese and bread crumbs. The result was excellent and a nice compliment to grilled hamburgers.

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus

Reviewed: May 16, 2009
Sensational! The aroma of the roasting potatoes is fantastic. I made this just as written. Next time, I will decrease the rosemary by one-quarter only because it sort of overwhelmed the thyme. Super yummy!

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
These cookies turned out great! I LOVE chocolate chip cookies that are soft and chewy. This recipe did not disappoint. I didn't add quite as much flour as the recipe listed. I add cup by cup and then hold back once the dough reaches the right consistency. I used butter and Crisco shortening. Just wonderful.

Famous Coconut-Almond Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I prepared this recipe as written and found that I needed more corn syrup to make the coconut stick together. I ended up using about 1/3 cup of corn syrup. Forming the coconut/corn syrup in to balls wasn't as easy as I anticipated I followed the directions for topping with chocolate. Next time, I will attempt to dip the candy in the chocolate to get better coverage.

Cream Cheese Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
This recipe offers a yummy change-up to good 'ole brownie mix brownies. I happen to like the brownies from a mix, but this offers that hard-to-beat combination of cream cheese and chocolate. I made the recipe just as printed. However, I opted to leave off the frosting and don't think they lacked anything because of it.

Corn Dog Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
I'm sorry to say that the results from this recipe were a bit of a disappointment. I used a Krusteaz cornbread mix which, all things considered, makes pretty good corn muffins. I chopped up the hotdogs but otherwise followed the recipe faithfully. Even though the muffins were thoroughly baked, the hotdogs had kind of a just-out-of-the-package flavor. This just didn't fill the bill for me.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
These are a great way to take care of a peanut butter craving. The cookies have a nearly perfect crunch-to-chewy ratio. I substituted butter for the margarine (my only alteration to the original recipe). Lots of peanut flavor. I baked these for 9 minutes and they turned out really well. A great way to fill your cookie jar!

Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
These are super easy to make and taste great. I baked two dozen and topped half cherry pie filling and the other half with blueberry pie filling. I added a rosette of whipped cream to each and put a tiny American flag pick on each one. They looked very cute on the table for election eve dessert. My guests raved about them. Just a perfect serving of cheesecake! Have your cream cheese and eggs at room temperature. This makes the mixing so much easier and will give you a smoother cheesecake.

Cathy's Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I didn't like this banana bread as much as I expected to. I followed the recipe except that I added 10 minutes to the baking time. The bread is very moist, but the sour cream flavor seems to cancel out some of the banana flavor. My husband likes it well enough and it is good, just not great.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake

Super easy to make and very good. I ended up baking it in a 10x13" Pyrex dish which required an extra 15 minutes in the oven. Very moist and delicious. No need to change a thing!

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2008
I've got to agree with all the other reviewers. THIS IS GREAT! This yummy apple crisp is a suitable dessert for any autumn dinner. I used my Cuisinart to blend the crust/topping. I put all the dry ingredients in the blender bowl. I then dropped pieces of butter in through the top with the blade running. Worked like a charm to create the best crust and topping. I suggest serving this warm with a generous scoop of good quality vanilla ice cream. Oh boy!

Chicago-Style Pan Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This satisfied my craving for Chicago-style pizza. I drained the tomatoes very well and used a slotted spoon to transfer them to a mixing bowl. Then, added the other ingredients including minced garlic rather than the powder. I also used turkey Italian sausage. Serve with a salad and red wine. Perfecto!
