Gloomy Days and Baba What?

I did pick up a new produce box last week. As I mentioned previously, the CSA I belong to grows much of the produce on the farm, but they also offer selections from other locations based on seasonality and freshness. This is nice because it still provides a convenient confine to work in ("This is what I have on hand, so I can make these things for dinner."), as opposed to taking a trip to the grocery store, being overwhlemed by numerous options, and coming home with nothing. Of course, I still go to the grocery store for non-produce items, but with the produce it's perfect -- I base my other purchases on what I have, and I do my best to make sure none of the produce in my box is wasted (ensuring that I really do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables).

Last Thursday I got a bunch of oranges and a mango, so I made smoothies (such as my delicious Gloomy Day Smoothie, altered, of course). With the sweet potatoes and red onion I made the latkes last weekend. I have been eating salads with the lettuce and radishes, and I used up all the broccoli one evening by steaming it and serving it over pan-fried polenta with red sauce and mozzarella cheese.

My favorite dish so far was a batch of baba ghanoush I made using a huge eggplant (not sure where that came from this time of year) and a head of garlic. I roasted the eggplant and garlic in the oven for 45 minutes. After cooling, I scraped the eggplant away from the skin and pressed the roasted garlic (it pretty much squirted out). I mixed them in a bowl with 1/4 cup tahini, the juice of 1 lemon, 1 cup plain yogurt, a little olive oil, and some salt. It was so good!

I didn't use any of these recipes, but here are a few on Allrecipes:
