I'm going to write about the produce that comes in my CSA box every two weeks and what I did (or didn't do) with it. My most recent box arrived the week before last, so almost everything in it is gone at this point. There are a few apples left, a little spinach, and some sweet potatoes. I used some of the spinach in a salad last week and on a pizza. Actually, I just took a look in the kitchen, and there is half an avocado remaining, as well. Aw, rats! I'd hate to waste that!
The pizza was excellent. I used Jay's Signature Pizza Crust: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Jays-Signature-Pizza-Crust/Detail.aspx<
To be perfectly honest, I don't usually work from recipes except when it comes to baking. However, I almost always check out a few recipes when I cook to get a general idea of what to do, what flavors might work well together, how much stuff to use, and that kind of thing. I love to cook and spend time in the kitchen. Even when it is hectic it is very relaxing. The bi-weekly CSA box is perfect for me, because I enjoy looking around to see what ingredients I have and making up a recipe based on what's at hand.
My box is interesting -- much of the content is grown on the farm out near Carnation, WA (thankfully, they were not flooded last week!), but they also get organic produce from other farms in the region (and sometimes even exotic places like California) so there is often fresh fruit that might not otherwise be available.
My favorite item to find in the box? Mushrooms!!!
