About this Cook
Married with 3 children. I have a passion for cooking, kitchen gadgets, bargain hunting, great cheap wine,& fighting for the right cause. I dream of a gourmet kitchen and put on cooking shows for my kids. Since I found this website I am always on it. I usually always change recipes, however I haven't done this here yet.I guess I respect the 'real cooks'.
My favorite things to cook
I love Mexican, Chinese, & of course Southern. I am currently experimenting Indian (Naan is great!).I also love to bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make birthday cakes for the Kids always. They choose the flavor and I get to bakin'. For holidays we plan menus with my extended family comittee. My little brother, my baby sister, myself and my mom, We choose a theme and each is in charge of a particular part. Most of the time I am 'sides' or 'desserts'.It gets interesting as we blend cultures like any good hispanic american. Tamales & turkey! yum!
My cooking triumphs
When I was still pregnant with my eight year old daughter ,we had a party at my house. With all my heart I prepared a buffet meal for about 40 people.I had 3 different meat entrees, sides, drinks & desserts.Everyone complimented on everything. The next day I went into labor.
My cooking tragedies
When I was twelve my baby sister was born. I was so happy I celebrated her 3 months and baked her a cake.Everything was fine until I made the icing.I did not know the difference between confectioners & granulated sugar,so I used granulated sugar that would not dissolve. I went ahead and iced the cake anyways. It was so gritty. Everyone kept saying how good it was, but I knew they were only trying to be nice.

Marshmallow Fondant
Fondant. I like the look of fondant so i tried making for the first time. It wasn't too complicated but i must say it is tough to work with fondant, the kneading isn't that much fun and it does not taste good.It is like an edible plastic.I believe next time I will use this for ornaments on the cake rather than to cover an entire cake.

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread
Like JEMNI , i am also the minority , well in every sense of the word. The correct temp to bake, is 350' for 9 minutes. They turned out fine as far as presentation. They do melt in your mouth because they very buttery & powdery. They seem to lack sweetness (and i'm not crazy for lots of sugar)and the shortbread flavor. With all the rave reviews, i'm thinking i did something wrong, but can't figure what. Love shortbread but i'm not sure if i'll try this one again.
