About this Cook
I am a married middle aged guy with a lot of family and gatherings.I like to try new and different recipes as well as old favorites.
My favorite things to cook
BBQ, pasta dishes, pork, fish, all meats, all seafood , potatoes, all veggies, soups, chowders, casseroles and pretty much everything. I'm not big into desserts and sweets though, I enjoy eating them. I have many baking failures, but a couple that have been very successfull.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Definetly holidays. When two large families merge and almost everybody has something special to contribute. Long live this tradition for our children and grandchildren to carry on.
My cooking triumphs
cooking for large crouds on many occasions and satisfying everybody.
My cooking tragedies
A Thanksgiving dinner the first year I married my wife. She is a nurse and had to work so the kitchen was all mine. The turkey was a gift from my employer and was the fattiest most disgusting bird I've ever seen. The stuffing was more like grease gravy I had to find an open store and buy an extremly overpriced loaf of bread to try to save it. The bird was barley eatable.

Pumpkin Crunch Cake
This cake was a challenge for me because I am new to baking but the results were good. I pretty much followed the recipe except that I forgot to drizzle the melted butter. I did this at the end and baked it for an extra 5 minutes or so. The texture was a little funky for a cake but all the flavor was there. I will bake this cake again with a few minor changes but all in all a very good recipe.

Linguine with Clam Sauce and Baby Portobello Mushrooms
I made this pretty much just as the recipe says except reducing the sodium as I am starting to get used to cooking low sodium. There is plenty in the clams and clam juice. I used unsalted butter and instead of bullion I used a quarter cup of chicken stock. I also added a third of a cup of heavy cream for texture. It was a very tasty meal that will make again.

Shrimp Avocado Pasta Salad
Excellent just as the recipe is. I followed it exactly as instructed except I only used about 1/4 of the amount of mayonaise that the recipe called for. The whole family agreed it was a very flavorfull and healthy meal. I will surely make it again.
