About this Cook
I'm a graduate of Oklahoma State Tech, now called OSU-Okmulgee.. I graduated in 1976, in Culinary Arts. However, every job that I've had, I ended up being a Baker. I "retired" in 2002, and moved to Ardmore, Ok to help my wife care for her parents, in their declining years--Alz. Disease, and COPD.
My favorite things to cook
Are you kidding? I've finally narrowed it down. Things rolled up: pinwheel cookies, rolled up snacks, and cinnamon rolls. I enjoy baked items too. If possible, I like to take the extra step and make it "home-made." Not as many people do that anymore.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Both brothers make excellent barbeque. I've learned to let them make the smoked beef brisket. (The first time I tried, it came out like leather.") One of my nieces is a 4th generation Chef. Two of the chefs are "certified." I chose not to be certified, because I'm a picky eater, and there are lots of foods that I don't like and don't want to taste.... Liver! Yuck!
My cooking triumphs
At a church Fund Raiser and another time a Silent Auction, they auctioned off my Cinnamon Rolls for $100/ pan. (I'd brought 2 or 3 pans, and I made 2 Oatmeal Cakes, too), but I didn't memember the prices for them. I was shocked at the $100 prices!
My cooking tragedies
I've Never had good luck grilling & smoking beef Briskets. The one time I tried it--it came out like leather! I'm going to have to learn how and master it because my favorite BBQ place nearby in Clarkesville, Ga. closed and went out of business. I've tried a few BBQ restaurants in our general, but they specialize in Pork. My relatives here in Georgia & new friends are starting to recommend new places....Last fall our United Methodist Men had a Chicken'Que as a fund raiser for the Boy Scouts. I was a "mopper" and got to mop the marinade two times on each side. It had a great flavor, and I plan to reduce the formula some "winter day," and try it the "Cowboy Way!"
