I'm a 29 yr old stay at home mom of 2 boys, 7 and 9. I also have 2 Chihuahuas and stay very busy with sports and all. Cooking is my way to relax and vent a lot of times. It's also where my creativity comes out. I am mostly a very health conscious cook and try to cook healthy for my family, though I keep some sweets around too (cakes, cookies, etc.) I've been cooking since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I don't think I've ever been told that something doesn't taste good. I'm not sure of most of my personal recipes since they are thrown together by smell and by looking, but I will try to get actual recipes written down to share. I also sell Goji Juice in my spare time. Feel free to go to my website, http://cherylrainer.freelife.com, and check out the benefits it makes in your health and income.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cakes and things to decorate. I also enjoy cooking for a crowd though I don't get a chance to do so very often.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas we go crazy making every kind of Christmas cookie imaginable. There are usually about 12 dozen cookies running around easily. I don't think we've ever had one get left uneaten either! We also do a very large traditional Thanksgiving with Turkey, Gravy, Fruit Salad, Green Bean Casserole, Sweet Potato Casserole (my sister's is the best), Turkey and Dumplings, and much, much more.
My cooking triumphs
I grew up in a house of home made hockey puck biscuits. It took me until I was about 23 or so, but I finally mastered a very good and buttery biscuit. This is one of those things that I will try to figure out the exact amounts and post. I also won a baking contest one time for my chocolate cake. I don't remember the recipe. I was in 4th grade, but I was certainly proud of that ribbon and the $50 came in handy too!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I ever made scrambled eggs, I was cooking at a friend's house. I wanted to use vegetable oil like I always saw my mom do, but she insisted I use butter. Word to the wise, NEVER do this! It's disgusting! (If anyone out there does that, please forgive me but my experience was horrible.)
