Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
Delicious...although I would cut the water down next time. It got a bit runny, which doesn't look so appetizing. The crumble topping was very sweet and tasty. Bible study ladies liked it & I love that this makes a 9 x 13 size. Enough to serve with plenty of leftovers! Definitely the best warm and a la mode!

Surprise Apple Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
This "salad" is always a surprise to folks who don't know what it is in. It is sweet, crunchy, crisp & delicious! I always use a package of instant vanilla pudding and granny smith apples. Easy & quick to whip up...and always devoured!

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2009
I cut the sugar down to 1 C. & it was very sweet. Also, followed others' directions to freeze it in gallon bags - this worked great. I used ginger ale & it gave a great flavor - it disappeared at the baby shower I made it for!

Lemonade Pie III

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2009
This is an all-time favorite of mine. I use 2 graham cracker crusts, get a large & small tub of whipped cream, and grate lemon zest & squeeze the juice from the lemon into the mixture. People always rave about this!

Restaurant-Style Hashbrown Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I make this recipe, with a few variations. I use southern style hashbrowns, cream of mushroom or cream of celery, add 2/3 C water to dilute, omit the butter, add 8 oz sour cream instead, and use 8 oz. Velveeta cheese, rather than Cheddar. This is simple to mix together the night before & then bake the next day. A great side for a family get-together, or my favorite to take to church funeral luncheons or meals for the hungry. It always goes fast - never any leftovers!

Garlic Chicken

I thought this was greasy. Perhaps I'll make it with Italian dressing next time instead of olive oil. Also thought it didn't have much "flavor."

Roquefort Pear Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I LOVE this salad. Perfect balance of sweet and tangy. I use spring mix salad and Balsamic vinegar instead, and love the flavor. I made this for a staff luncheon and also Easter brunch and although there were a few who turned their nose up to it because of the blue cheese, but that just left more for the rest of us! I prefer to toss the ingredients together and add the dressing just before serving, so that it is fresh and the dressing doesn't make anything soggy.

PHILLY Blackforest Stuffed Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
Made these for bible study one evening. I think I would buy 2 cans of cherry pie filling, just so that I had enough to put inside & on top of the cupcakes next time. I felt like the cake was a little dry, but that might have been because I used German Chocolate cake mix. I would make these again.

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I made a few of the changes suggested by other reviewers (i.e. less sugar, less tomato paste) & thought the taste was delicious. The meatballs turn out very tender and tasty, too. This always makes a lot, so I freeze it for future meals. It tastes great even after being thawed!

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
AWESOME chai recipe. It tastes so smooth & has a delicious honey/spice taste. This chai is a little spicier than what I have normally encountered from a store-bought mix, but I loved it! You do need to be sure that you grind up the mixture very finely to avoid having grounds in your mug. I gave this as a gift to my mom & a friend & they loved it, too.

Grandma's Cranberry-Orange Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I made this for a funeral luncheon at our church. This was my first attempt at a Jello mold (which I actually made in a bundt pan), so it didn't look so great, but I think with practice, it would look delightful. I omitted the celery. I don't know if I didn't soften the cream cheese long enough, but my whipped topping did not "spread" easilly on top of the mold, so it looked pretty gross. I think next time I would serve the topping on the side. It does smell and taste delicious, though!

Pea Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
This was a typical cold pea salad. I used diced up cojack cheese instead of shredded cheddar. I think this tasted a bit bland and needed a "kick." Next time instead of mayo, I think I will use Ranch dressing.

Almond Green Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
Made these one night for my family as a quick dinner side. I made it without the almonds because I was feeding it to my 14 month old. He doesn't always enjoy whole vegetables yet, but he devoured these tomatoes & beans & kept asking for "more!" I will certainly make this again. Husband & I both thought it gave the beans a good flavor.
