About this Cook
My husband and I just bought our first home in the Dayton, Ohio, area and we're having fun experimenting in our kitchen with fun new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking! I love trying new baking recipes and testing them out on my husband, friends, coworkers, family ... anyone who will try it. I also love using the slow cooker for ribs, roasts and stews. I've been getting more experimental lately with ethnic cuisine, such as Thai and Lebanese.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, my mom, sister and I make tons of cookies and candy - fudge, pralines, toffee, peanut butter swirls, shortbread ... you name it, we make it!
My cooking triumphs
Last Christmas I stumbled across a recipe for cranberry bread on the back of the bag of cranberries. It looked good so I tried it and it was fabulous! I ended up making about half a dozen loaves for my family and friends, and mixed in white chocolate chips and walnuts, then tied them up in cellophane and pretty ribbon. everyone was crazy about it!
My cooking tragedies
1. Setting the stove on fire while trying to make stovetop popcorn. 2. Trying to make icing with my sister, using a recipe that called for eggs and butter, but no sugar! 3. Batch after batch of failed attempts at fudge - i can't ever make it as good as my mom's!

Roasted Red Potato Salad
I made this without the eggs (yucko!) and used a packet of ranch salad dressing mix instead of just paprika and it was wonderful! this is now my potato salad recipe!

Pumpkin Cake III
I made this for work and everyone is raving about it! It's amazingly moist & very pumpkiny tasting, which I love! I did substitute some ingredients to make it healthier but I'm sure it would be even better made as written. The changes I made are: Splenda instead of sugar; 1 1/2 cups white flour + 1/2 cup wheat flour; 1 cup applesauce + 1/4 cup veg oil; 2 whole eggs + 1/3 cup egg whites; plus added extra cinnamon, ginger, cloves & nutmeg to give it more of a pumpkin pie flavor. All these changes aren't required, because the original recipes is definitely 5 stars!

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style
This is easy and SOOO GOOD! My husband and brother-in-law ate an entire batch standing at the kitchen counter. They wouldn't let me take it away long enough to move it to the dinner table!
