I am 21 years old and terrified of cooking. My mother is a wonder woman in the kitchen and I grew up on daily homemade meals, cookies, breads etc... Since I moved out of the house a couple years ago I have lost 30 pounds. I have recently come to the realization that I am slowly starving my self with my incompentency in the kitchen and things need to change.
My favorite things to cook
So far I can make casseroles, banana bread, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies, and muffins. I love to make muffins, I go muffin crazy and make massive amounts of them when I have insomnia.
I also LOVE to take pictures of the stuff I make. The majority of the time I don't even eat any of it, I just take their picture and hand the food off to my friends and family (or sometimes strangers)
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was little my mom would make ollie bolen around some holiday every year. (I can't recall which one, Christmas maybe?) She would make us eat them outside because we would get powdered sugar all over everything.
My cooking triumphs
I went to the local 24 hour grocery store at 1:30 in the morning and the cutie checker boy commented on my purchase of muffin papers, sugar, and energy drinks. (and also on my outfit which consisted of plaid and bedroom slippers) We then had a delightful little talk about baking and I gave him some very helpful unasked for baking advice.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 10 I attempted to make baked oatmeal for my family. I added a tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon. I have never been able to live that down and just now (11 years later) have attempted to cook again.
