Pie Crust IV

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I have searched everywhere for that perfect pie crust and here it is. The dough is easy to work with, makes enough for 2 pies and comes out flaky and delicious. I used ice cold water and refrigerated the dough for 30 minutes after making it but that is something that should be done anyways when making any kind of pie dough.

Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
Simply amazing! I added a few things to make it even better though. First I added about 2 teas. beef boulion. Then I finely sliced 1 medium onion, chopped 2 green onions, finely chopped about 2 teas. fresh ginger and also added black pepper. I also doubled the sauce part of the dish because it seemed like it wouldn't be enough.

Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
This was an alright frosting, I found it to be a little too sweet though so I would reccomend using it on something like shortbread, rather than sweeter goods.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
The BEST apple pie i have ever had and everyone else that i served it to thought so as well. For such a simply recipe it sure does have all the right flavors. I did make a few changes though. I love cinnamon in my apple pie so i added about 1 teas. of cinnamon and i also found that i only needed about 6 apples.

Italian Cream Cake II

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I did not care for this cake. It does have great reviews and there isn't anything wrong with the cake itself but the flavors of it just didn't work with me. I used my own cream cheese frosting since this frosting was to sweet and had an interesting taste to it. I thought that because of all the egg yolks and buttermilk that it would be a hit but it was more of a miss

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
this was a pretty good dish. I found it to be really spicy though, it had much more heat then restaurants do and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I love spice food but this was so spicy that it actually kind of ruined the flavor of the dish. If you are going to make this dish i suggest either adding only 1/2 ounce chili paste or perhaps using a whole other ingredient instead. I also had to add a bit more cornstarch to thicken it up to my liking.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I give 5 stars for the taste of this frosting but only 4 stars to the proper amounts given for the ingredients. As other readers suggested, you need to add cornstarch to thicken this frosting because it is very thin. I actually had to add 2 Tbsp. of cornstarch and once I did it was perfect.

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I am a big fan of traditional style chinese food and this was spot on. I made a few changes, i added red and green peppers and more pineapple. also right before serving i mixed in fresh green onions. The pork was nice and crunchy and the sauce was out of this world. The only con about it was it couldve been more sour and less sweet.

Coconut Parfaits

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
Far to sweet, I felt like I was just eating coconut from the bag. I was hoping that because it was made with whipped cream that it would have a smooth texture but it didnt at all. When i removed it from the freezer only 30 minutes after putting it in, it was frozen and i had to mix to to defrost it and then it tasted grainy, sweet and honestly i threw it out.

Pan-Poached Alaskan Salmon Piccata

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
The fish was alright but the sauce didn't really work for me. I made it perfectly but the taste couldve been much better. I had to triple the recipe for a larger family, i think the sauce has to much of a lemon flavor and i enjoy lemons but it was like pouring lemon juice onto the noodles and fish. I would reccommend using a lemon alfredo sauce or something similar to that.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
I thought that this cookie was the best oatmeal raisin cookie i have ever had. although it is quite similar to the quaker recipe she has added her own flare to it. :) There is nothing wrong with doing that, in fact if you compare several recipes then most are alike in ways. These cookies came out with a texture between crunchy and chewy and just had an explosion of flavor in your mouth. This is definately my favorite recipe and the only thing i changed was i added an extra 1/2 teas. of cinnamon but thats only because i love cinnamon so much.

Halibut with Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2008
Being from ketchikan, Alaska myself and eating a lot of fish we all seem to know which recipes are good and which ones just don't work out with fish and I have to tell you that this particular recipe is excellent. This fish can go with just about anything and makes your mouth water with every bite.
