I love cooking, baking especially, but because of the major preciseness involved in it I'm often afraid to try new and "out of my element" recipes. My family supports my food interest and gives excellent praise, but sometimes I wonder if they really mean it...! I'm learning a great deal about really "caring" for what I make- use only the best, take it slow, pay close attention, etc. I'm sure, in time, cooking with worry will be a thing of my past.
My favorite things to cook
Cakes, cookies, bars (basically any dessert!), fish, chicken, pasta, casseroles (simply for the ease involved in them.)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas at Gram's house- so much hustle and bustle, but thats what makes the experience.
My cooking triumphs
My father is a diabetic and doesnt get to savor too many sweets, so I made him his favorite pie (pecan) in a completely sugar-free version! He was so thrilled that he was no longer left out of the "sweet" world. After that I looked up all of his favorites and converted them into sugar-free desserts.
My cooking tragedies
I cant even count the number of failed dessert recipes I've had. But the funny thing is that all my failed one's are, usually, the same recipe but in another person's version! Cakes are my major weakness- mine are always too dry, but I always make sure I follow every recipe to a "T", never overmix/overbake/underbake, or use the wrong ingredients! Practice will do me well. (I once made a choc. cake and nobody ate it for a month! It just sat on the counter growing white mold! SO embarassing!)
