About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a Czechoslovakian background and so perfecting the kolache has been what I've been working on since the time I started cooking. It should only take another twenty years or so.
My cooking tragedies
The one that comes to mind is the party potatoes I made for a graduation party in a large 18 quart roaster. I pulled a recipe off the internet--not this site--and found that the potatoes weren't even close to being done. Fortunately I had enough other food that no one noticed, when I pulled them off the menu except for a friend who was helping me set up and she WON'T EVER forget.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
This is "my" potato soup. It's never failed to be creamy and flavorful. It also is very versatile, take the basic soup and tweek it a little...add some cheese, or sour cream, cook a ham bone to make the stock instead of using boullion. It's a great basic recipe.

Crackle Top Molasses Cookies
This is the recipe I used for molasses cookies. Just the right sweet moist crispiness and they freeze well for later too.
