I am 67 and have 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. I love spending time with them. I really love to cook healthy food for them and make the dishes attractive to children. My husband and I are both retired now and enjoy our time together with our family. I still cook our holiday meals by myself because thats what I enjoy doing. I love shopping at the malls. I want to stay active as long as I can.
My favorite things to cook
I love to experiment with new dishes. I love to fix meat dishes and try new seasonings and marinades and creating new ways to make veggies more delicious. Casseroles are a great way to have fun. I love to cook the traditional meals, too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Preparing the holiday meals. We always have quite a spread. I use those meals to introduce any new things I have come up with to our family. Sometimes those dishes end up being family favorites and sometimes they don't want it again. [ha] What the heck, I had fun trying it.
My cooking triumphs
As a young wife, years ago, I had trouble with fixing my husbands steaks to be tender. His mother always fixed them in an iron skillet on the stove top. I had to learn to do this so I could feel like I was taking care of him as good as his mother did. He really loves how they turn out now. Thats his favorite way for a steak. Learning to make cakes from scratch was also a triumph for me. I just couldn't seem to get them as light as I wanted to. I have really got it down pat now.
My cooking tragedies
Making spaghetti for the first time. I had enough spaghetti for the whole town. It didn't look like much when I first put it in the pot.
