I'm an attorney and my husband works in public radio. We have a daughter who was born in February 2007. I love to cook but have had little time to do so since our daughter was born -- I'd rather spend time with her than playing in the kitchen. But I still love to eat, and now I focus even more on quick, easy dishes that I can make in a hurry.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, but seldom make anything complicated anymore (also trying to cut back on carbs and fat for family health reasons). Long, slow braises and roasts entice me, especially with new and novel meats. I try to buy one new ingredient each time I shop, to ensure that my repertoire continues to expand.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm trying to invent some now for my family. Growing up, we didn't have many cooking traditions, but I've longed for them my whole life. I'm focusing on creating special holiday traditions and will go from there ...
My cooking triumphs
I once made a lobster bread pudding that was fabulous, and a seafood lasagne that was to die for. Anything yeasted feels like a success, as does anything my husband gobbles up and requests again!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to count. I'm known for my impatience in the kitchen and often burn things because I crank up the heat ... also, several loaves of bread have sunken in ... and many a fowl has had to return to the oven after being sorely undercooked. I'm a work in progress, much like many of my dishes!
