Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
This was good, but a little too oily for my taste so next time I will be sure to cut down the butter. I will also cut down the flour a little. One note that changed the outcome drastically, I'm under 21 and had to substitute beef broth for the wine which is a shame since I feel like that's what it was missing. I'll have to make it again when I'm legal!

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I used 1/2 cup of apples instead of bluberries and the recipe came out fantastic! Yum! I will definitely make these again soon! They are very filling, I only had to eat one when I normally eat 2-3 normal pancakes so because of that the serving size may need to be adjusted. Or perhaps I'll just make a bunch and freeze them... definitely a keeper thanks!

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
Absolutely delicious and so easy! I had them ready in less than 15 minutes! I doubled the recipe and I skipped the jalapenos, salt (black beans have enough sodium as it is), and the cilantro since I'm not a fan and just added some taco seasoning and a little chili powder with the onions and peppers, it was what I had on hand and it tasted good too. Just for simplicity I added a whole 8oz package of cream cheese instead of 6oz and they came out great. Make sure you drain the beans very well, it helps make the mixture less liquidy and therefore eating them is easier and not as messy. I will definitely be adding these to my recipe box, yum!

Stuffed Peppers with Turkey and Vegetables

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
These were delicious and so healthy! I didn't have turkey on hand so I used hamburg instead. I also added two cans of diced tomatoes instead of just one, more mushrooms than what was called for, another tablespoon of tomato paste, and sprinkled a little bit of Monterey Jack on top. They came out great! I will definitely be making these again and again and will be experimenting with adding other varieties of veggies to them. Yum!

Zucchini Saute

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
This recipe is delicious and very easy to make even in my tiny little German kitchen. I added a little paprika because it's the only other spice I have and used sesame oil to saute the onions (and like others suggested I added garlic). I also put a little gouda on top and just a little helped bring out all the flavors. I also used 8 min. rice so my zucchini would not be overcooked and it wouldn't take as long. Overall, I will definitely make again as it's easy to make while I'm here in Germany and inexpensive, but healthy and filling. Thanks!

Spinach Apple Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2009
This salad was very easy and so tasty for the little work needed to make it. I made it for just myself and it was fantastic, so fantastic I think I'll make it for lunch tomorrow. I added some craisins along with the raisins and used Fuji apples. The only downside is that the craisins/raisins and apples sunk to the bottom so be sure to mix it well before serving to bring them back to the top.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
Let me begin by saying I am NOT a mushroom person, in fact the idea of me eating this was slightly repulsive. Well, turns out that I AM a mushroom lover with the right dish and this is definitely it! I thought I was crazy for making something I didn't think I would like, but I'm glad I did because this is one of the most interesting recipes I've made all month. The sauce was delicious and even though everyone said skip the flour, I didn't and liked the thin coating because it helped soak up some of the sauce. The chicken was nice and moist and I served it over pasta with asparagus. Delicious! Also, tasted good reheated which is important because I cook for myself only and always have leftovers. This one is going in my recipe book!

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
I have to admit, after reading many of the reviews I was expecting the mac of all mac and cheeses, but for me it just wasn't there. I'm not saying the recipe was bad, it just wasn't mouth watering and it certainly didn't get me excited. Part of the reason may be because I'm not really a mac and cheese type of girl, but I found that the whole thing wasn't too flavorful or particularly memorable. Perhaps I should have added those bread crumbs and butter which I skipped because they just didn't appeal to me. Everything else I kept exact (oh except I used 16oz of pasta instead of 8oz and I couldn't imagine using less, was that a typo??) I did however find it tasted better after reheating which was slightly odd, but good because most mac and cheese is horrid after reheating. All in all, it's a decent recipe, just not worth writing home about and I may hesitate before making it again. If you are a mac and cheese lover, give it a go, maybe it's just me.

Inside Out Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2009
This was delicious! I was actually surprised at how good it was since it was extremely easy to make. I did make some changes though. I didn't have any worcestershire sauce so I just added some salt and italian seasoning. Also, I would cook the sausage a little bit before attempting to cut it, that way it doesn't fall apart. I used canned corn and feel it didn't add much to the recipe so if you don't have any corn I wouldn't worry. I also used 2 green peppers for the 19 oz of sausage, I just feel like it needed more. I agree with the other reviewer, the amount of rice could be scaled down, I made two cups and it was plenty. Great recipe and besides the rice it only take half an hour. Made enough for five.

Trail Mix Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
I've been making this for a while, very good combination of flavors and so easy to make! This is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or just a snack. I skipped the zest because I don't have a grater, but didn't change anything else. I used the trail mix with the m&m's in it and it turned out great, not too sweet, not too salty. I think next time I'll add some chopped dates.

Tiny Shortbread Tarts

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
Very good, I actually filled them with a cream filling and topped with fresh strawberries. If you are having problems with the tarts puffing up too much, I would try freezing the dough for 10 minutes before baking and halfway through baking, use a fork to gently poke the bottoms if they have puffed up.

Easy Pizza Sauce I

I used half the water and my sauce was still very thin. Next time I will only use about a cup or so of water. Very tasty though and you have enough for about two pizzas.

World's Best Lasagna

Very good, but it still doesn't beat my mother's lasagna (she is half italian). Very meaty and rich, perfect for large parties or potlucks and relatively easy as far as lasagna goes.

Spinach Cheese Tortellini

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
Very very good. I did find that I had lots of sauce so next time I plan on cutting back a little on how much sauce I make, but a lovely recipe nonetheless. I skipped the mushrooms, but kept everything else and the colors from the tomato and the spinach look beautiful together. Also very good leftover so it's okay to make a lot of it.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
An excellent recipe with great taste, however, I did make some errors. I accidentally added the yolk to the dough, but my bread still turned out great and I just brushed it with the egg white. I also didn't realize my yeast was expired, so my bread did not rise as much as it should have, but it was still excellent and everyone loved it. I can't wait to try this again and do it the right way! lol

Very very good! I didnt realize the dough would rise so much, so my crust was very thick and next time I will make sure to roll it much thinner, but still excellent. A hit with the family and I plan to make again! A keeper.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
These were excellent, but I did make some changes just for the sake of saving time. I coated the wings in the flour and only let them sit for 20 minutes because of a time crunch, then I deep fried them for only 5 minutes, then I stuck them onto a cookie sheet and baked them because I prefer my wings baked. I baked them at 375 for about 40 minutes until they were done, coated them in sauce, and the turned the broiler on and stuck them in for about 5 minutes to give them added crunch. They were excellent and next time I will try sticking more closely to the recipe, but I will definitely make again!

No Bake Cookies V

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
First time I made these, they didn't set and were gooey and sticky. They tasted good so I thought I would try it again. I read the reviews and I tried again. This time they came out crumbled and brittle. So I give up, I'm sure if you can get them right they would be wonderful, but 4 cups of sugar later, I'll stick to the ones I put in the oven.
