I've been cooking for myself and for my family since I was less than twelve, and have increased both my personal repertoire as well as my palate for different and more interesting/complex foods.... and I'm still working at it! I'm also going to be entering the realm of cooking for the pickiest eaters in the world: kids! I'm having my first in April and look forward to all of the culinary adventures we'll share!
My favorite things to cook
Just about anything and everything savory! I love working with poultry rather than red meat. For instance, I use turkey bacon rather than pork and prefer chicken to beef in my recipes. I've cooked just about everything from gourmet meals to quick and easy comfort food and love it all!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I used to love watching my grandmother cook. She was the most adorable little French woman and made (and I know I'm biased here) the best apple pie in the world! Family get-togethers are so much fun because we can all share recipes and use a few of our favorites from Grandma.
My cooking triumphs
I started tweaking my mom's chicken stir fry behind her back when I was kid, and absolutely love all of the variations I've come up with! From ginger-grapefruit to basil-cayenne, I can make a stir fry for anyone's tastes. I also love tweaking the classics, such as adding whole grape tomatoes stuffed with fresh basil to the sauce in chicken parmesan.
My cooking tragedies
Any time I try to bake cakes, cookies, or breads experimentally, it fails. Miserably! My most recent disaster was an attempt at chocolate peanut-butter and banana cream pie. The crust, made from crushed up pretzels amidst other things, became hard as a rock and burned!
