Original Nestle® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
This were very yummy, and my boyfriend loved them, but i have had better. They are a tad too fluffy for me. Maybe i over beat the butter? The only thing i did differently was 1 cup sugar instead of 1 and a half. And then i did half the salt. I cant imagine not making thoes changes, i was so sweet. but maybe thats why they were more fluffy.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I made a few changes. I used 3/4 butter softened not melted. 1/2 a cup of sugar instead of 1 cup, I do not like how over sweet so many american deserts are. 1/2 cup of the flour i used whole wheat. I didn't have enough sour cream so I used 1/4 cup greek yogurt. And no nuts. And I didn't let it cool compleatly. how could I? It is AMAZING. My boyfriend never knew that I used non fat greek yogurt or whole wheat, or half the sugar. SO GOOD! i cant imagin using 1 cup of sugar, yuck. that would be a banana cake not bread.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
This recipe was yummy. A bit bland though. I did add lots of cumin and the cinnamon to the onions as suggested from other reviewers. Next time I will add masala. I highhhly suggest using non fat greek yogurt as it is thick and creamy as sour cream but with out the calories. I also suggest cooking the onions slowly (I cooked them the entire time the lentils were cooking on a lower heat. They are delicious) and to add more. Will make this again, but needs a little improvement.

Whole Wheat Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
I love this recipe because not only is it so yummy, its also really healthy. Whole wheat and no oil or fat? amazing. The only alteration I did was that I used vanilla rice drink (you could do plain and then add vanilla extract) instead of milk. After making these my boyfriend liked them so much that I made it easy for him by making it a easy mix. To do so you can triple all the dry ingredients and put in an air tight container. Put directions on the container, 1 1/2 cup mix to one egg and 1 1/4 rice milk. yummy!

No-Guilt Zesty Ranch Dip

This was very good. I HIGHLY suggest using non-fat greek yogurt as it is even more satisfyingly creamy as regular whole fat yogurt. Mmmm!

Spinach and Leek White Bean Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
This recipe was very good and very simple. I did make a few changes: I used most of the leek, not just the white base, I added one more garlic clove and 1 cup more broth. and as suggested I substitute rosemary and thyme for cumin and put the spinach in the individual bowls so that my left over soup didn't have slimy spinach the next day. Because I used most of the leek, I used 3 instead of four since using more of the leek increased the amount of leek in the soup.

Allie's Delicious Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
This was so, so very good! Oh my goodness. Its like heaven in a spoon. As RUBENETTE suggested, I also left out the ham, used 12 oz macaroni, and added a teaspoon each of ground mustard and worcestershire sauce. I also added some bread crumbs over the top and it made it even more yummy and crispy. Will make again and again. Wish there was some left over to eat right now!

Simple Baked Apples

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
This was wonderful. I made a half batch and did make some changes: Added vanilla to the milk as suggested. I only had 1% and so I cut thin slices of butter (about 1 1/2 tablespoon total) on top before putting in I recommend stirring it half way through to coat the apples again since the filling falls to the bottom. It was very yummy and I will of course make it again. I may cook it longer though because the apples were rather hard, unlike soft apple pie apples. :)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I turned this fabulous recipe very low fat and vegan and they still came out very yummy. All my non-vegan friends, family and boyfriend loved them too and were so surprised to know they were vegan. For anyone who is vegan, lactose intolerant or are just looking to make these a healthy, yummy muffin this is what I did: Substituted ¼ C canola oil instead of butter in batter. Substituted ¼ C applesauce for 1 egg. Added an extra banana. I don’t like very sweet desserts so I cut it down from ¾ white to ¼ brown sugar and ¼ white sugar. For flour I did 1 C whole wheat and ½ C white. Added 1 tsp acacia fiber (just had it, but not necessary). 1 tsp toasted wheat germ (just had it, but not necessary) I also followed other reviewers adding 1tsp. Vanilla, ½ tsp. Nutmeg and ¾ tsp cinnamon to the batter. For the Crum topping I substituted canola oil for butter and did use white flour. Don’t be turned away by the healthiness, it was still so, so yummy AND guilt free! :) Hope this helps someone! :)

Fried Rice Restaurant Style

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
This was verry good and will be making it again very soon. Top with Srirachas HOT chili sauce to serve. yummm. I changed two things: I used one cup (uncooked measurment)rice but the correct amounts of everything else because I wanted more substance since I was only having the rice and a cucumber salad. I also used brown rice. I then put on Sriracha HOT chili Sauce (the red sauce found in chinese restaurants. you can buy it in the asian section of most grocery stores).

Broccoli with Rigatoni

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
This was soooo good!! I was so suprized at how wonderful it was. I try to eat really healthy and I am also on a college budget so I made a few modifications: -I used brown rice penne pasta (trader joes) to make it a bit healthier. I cut the serving to two instead of six since I was just making it for myself and my lunch tomorrow. I didnt measure how much pasta but just used aboiut 1/3 of the bag. -I used less butter, about one teaspoon of I cant believe its not butter. -I didnt have fresh basil...actually i did! but i forgot I had it so I just sprinkled some dried basil. -I only had sprinkle parmesen not the good fresh stuff. -The recipe didn't really explain how to cut the broccoli, so i just chopped it up into a size i prefered. -i had it with a small salad on the side. Despite not having all the exact ingredients, it was sooo wonderful. I can't wait to make it for my boyfriend this weekend!

Flank Steak with Garlic Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
This was SOOOOO good. I was so impressed I couldnt believe that I had made it myself. I had never made steak before, but decided to make it for my boyfriends 19th birthday. I used two sirloin steaks (traders joes, 8$ for two!). I included beef broth and sliced button mushrooms into the wine sauce, and didn't really measure any of it, just eye balled it and would add more wine or more brooth as I tasted. Just do it to your own liking. I also made grilled onions (onions, butter and a little bit of brown sugar) and oven roasted potatoes (Ann Bergs Roasted new potatoes, using multi colored potatoes: red, yellow and purple.) I also used merlot as suggested. It was so so wonderful and I cant wait to make it again! I highly highly suggest this because it is better then I have EVER had in a resturant, and WAYYY less expensive and so satisfying. I hope it works out well for everyone! If I can make it in my first apartment, away from home and with limited supplies, then it cant be that hard.

Curried Zucchini Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
This recipe is really great, quick and easy and it doesn't call for a bunch of ingredients to go out and buy. I'm cooking it for the second time, and this time I am doing a double batch because it only lasted one meal when I last made it. I prefer adding a little bit more curry powder (table spoon or so) and a bit of hot chili pepper sauce. This recipe is great because it is a basic squash soup so you can use pumpkin, yellow squash, or a different kind of squash if you would like. I highly recommend this!

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2008
I love this recipe. I made it for dessert, and while I was cooking dinner I left it on the counter, and couldn't help having a small taste of the pudding every once and a while. When I made it, it came out really thick after sitting a few minutes. I guess i let the milk evaporate a little to much. But after adding more milk it made it more pudding like and thinner. It also made it a little less sweet, which I liked. This is a great recipe! Thank you!

Mama's Best Broiled Tomato Sandwich

Reviewed: May 26, 2008
I did not care for this. It came out of the oven looking so good but it tasted so fatty and creamy. I guess I should have known it wouldnt be good though, its basicly 4 tablespoons of fat with cheese. I ended up taking everything off except the tomatoes.
