No Fail Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
I've made this cake twice and both times it turned out great. A nice way to change it up is to play with the flavorings - I included vanilla, but switched the other out - lemon, almond, etc. It's a very versatile recipe - we'll be making it again!

Sugar Peanuts

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2006
These are great! I've made these twice and the second time I added a teaspoon of salt to the sugar mixture - oooh, they were really tasty. They tasted like the peanuts in a box of Cracker Jacks. As another person said, just keep stirring - the liquid will evaporate eventually, I promise (it took me 15 - 20 minutes I think.)

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2004
I'm new to making potato salad and this recipe made me known for my salad on the first try. I used half the bacon called for and used just a little over half the mayo called for as well. Mmmm, it was GOOD! A word of caution to new potato salad makers: if you double this recipe you will end up with one seriously HUGE bowl of potato salad. That' not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, considering how good this is. ;)

Sparkling Grilled Ham

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2004
A great marinade for ham. I marinated a ham steak for about 8 hours in the frig and there was a nice orange flavor with a hint of cloves and ginger when we ate it. The only change I made was to shorten the grilling time. Easy clean up, too; you can't beat that!

Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2004
I used this as a marinade for whole boneless, skinless chicken breasts and it was so fine. It's been a long time since everyone has been this pleased with a meal. I personally liked the nutty flavor the sesame oil gave the chicken. We made grilled pineapple slices with a butter, honey, and cinnamon glaze to serve on top and it added a terrific finishing touch to the chicken. This is going to be a summer favorite!

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2004
Yup, it's as good as all these folks say it is. :) I added just a little more brown sugar, some yellow mustard and then thickened with corn starch before I put the beef back in. Ohmigosh, this was good!

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2004
I was cooking for a friend who requested coleslaw with dinner and since I don't care for coleslaw, well I didn't have a clue what it took to make a good batch. So out to Allrecipies I go and boy did I make points with this one. It's nice when you get asked for the recipe you used to make something you don't even like, ha!

Pecan Snack

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2003
These things are so good friends are threatening to bring me pecans so I can make them more. I use 1 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. It sounds like a lot of cinnamon, but it's perfect.

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2003
My friends have been holding out on me - who knew it could be this easy?! I lined the pans with wax paper as others have suggested and replaced the pumpkin spice with 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg, and a couple shakes of ground cloves. I also doubled the recipe since it seemed so simple. I was glad I did; they were gone in no time flat. Go ahead and try this - it's easier than you can imagine.

Very Fruity Rum Punch

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2003
Seriously good stuff. :) I double the recipe and leave out some of the water; then I freeze it. I just fill up a glass with the frozen concoction and top it off with lemon-lime soda when I want fruity drink. Works like a charm. Don't forget the paper umbrellas!

Beefy Cheese Dip

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2003
This recipe was a big hit. I used mild salsa and ended up adding a can of drained rotel-style tomatoes to give it a kick. I also added some chili powder (about a teaspoon). And what other reviewers has said is true: there really wasn't anything left to bring home . . . darn it all anyway. :)

No-Cook Never-Fail Fudge

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2003
I'm truly lousy when it comes to making fudge, but this one turns out every time. With this recipe, I look like I know what I'm doing. :) I agree with the previous posts that say halve the recipe and sift the cocoa into the powdered sugar, it really helps. Other than that, I follow the instructions. If you want to have some success at making fudge under your belt, this is the one to start with - it's as close as I've come to fool-proof.

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2003
Oh yes, this one's a keeper. I used a bundt pan and filled it 2/3rds as others suggested; it worked out perfectly. I also found another easy way to cut the biscuits into quarters - kitchen shears.

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2002
This needed more flavor for our tastes, so I was heavy handed with the Italian seasoning the second time I cooked it. I also found a full day of cooking was too much, so I cut back on cooking time and thickened the sauce with corn starch before serving. It was all gone by the end of the meal. :)

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2002
This bread has a really nice subtle flavor to it. Even my 6 and 12 year old nieces agree it's good eating - and at those ages they don't agree on anything. I used quick cooked rolled oats since that's all I had on hand and it was still great.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2002
If you're new at working with yeast and bread machines like I am, try this recipe - it's wonderful! And if you're avoiding it because it calls for packaged yeast and all you have is yeast in a jar (me again), check the jar - I found the equivilant measurement on the side. Who knew it could be this easy? :)

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

I increased the lemon juice amount to 1/3 cup and won a bake-off with this one . . . not bad for a first try! :)
