About this Cook
i'm a law student that started cooking when i was in college. my mom hardly ever cooks, aside from a few standards. she's a good cook, just never had much time because she was working. so now i'm learning all on my own, and doing pretty well, i think.
My favorite things to cook
cookies! and anything that doesn't take more than a few steps.
My cooking tragedies
i was cooking rice when i was a freshman in college, only a week or so into school. i brought the water to a boil, but didn't turn it down. the rice burned into the pot, ruining the pot and stinking up the whole floor. i'm really surprised the fire alarm didn't go off!

Campbell's(R) Slow-Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
This is very similar to a recipe that my mother has made for years, but with some alterations. No potatoes (the dumplings provide enough carbs!), and thighs instead of breasts, which stand up better to long cooking. Instead of the baking mix dumplings, she used a can of biscuits, each cut into quarters, flattened, and stirred in during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Yum!

Sunday Best Fruit Salad
I was really intrigued by this recipe and wanted to like it, but it was just barely okay. The peach pie filling made it too slimy, I think. I brought it to a potluck, and it was barely touched. I ate a serving of it, but brought most of it back home. It doesn't keep well, either. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either.

Sugar Cookie Icing
i used honey instead of corn syrup, and vanilla instead of almond (like others), and it tasted great. you couldn't taste the honey at all (my friends were surprised it had honey in it), but it made it dry, shiny, and hard like others say this icing does. and i used sprinkles, but just had to push them in a little bit so they'd stick before the icing set. it was pretty thick, though, so i added some more milk and honey and it was fine. i also doubled the recipe, because this doesn't make that much, and i like lots of icing on my cookies!
