About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Fish, venison, and Mexican dishes.
My cooking tragedies
My boyfriend got a small smoker last year, and I wanted to make kabobs with it. As far as I new, smoking foods took hours to do, so I prepares all the food, put it in the smoker and we went to a 2 hour movie. When we returned, the small chucks of steak were black and had the texture and toughness of jerky, and the vegetables crumbled in to ashes when we tried to touch them! I didn't realize that our tiny little smoker worked much quicker than the huge smokers used by farmers and butchers to cure large hams and such. This was a mistake I definitely learned from, and have no repeated since.

Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies
I made these cookies for Christmas and they were a HUGE hit! I had to make a few adjustments, though, due to a last minute lack of some ingredients. I didn't have any whole wheat flour, but I don't think it made much of a difference. I also didn't have as much brown sugar as I needed, so I made a simple glaze from powdered sugar and water to drizzle over the cookies when they were done. Everyone raved over them and we ate the whole tray in one night!! I will definitely be making these again and again.

Oven-Crisped Potatoes
This recipe is so easy and tastes delicious. The whole reason I wanted to make it was because of the added onion, but when I looked in my pantry, I had no onion! I did add much more pepper (I love pepper) a few herbs... parsley, oregano, Italian seasoning, as well as a touch of Worcestershire sauce. Delicious! I can't wait to do it again with a big red onion next time!
