I am a college student who enjoys cooking for friends and seeing their delight in what I conjure up! My mother taught me how to cook and to appreciate what food can do to bring people together.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking easy soups, BBQueing, creating great dips and providing tasty en trees which may include chicken, beef and seafood.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother instilled the importance of cooking in my mother who then passed it on to me. My grandmother would cook most meals from scratch whereas I take advantage of what is available today through the local grocery store (aka.store-bought pickles and hamburger buns--she made her own). The recipes that have been passed down through the generations in our family have provided much joy that I will pass on to my friends and family.
My cooking triumphs
One of my favorite recipes is an Italian stuffed-mushroom recipe. I found it in a cook book made by women of a local church where my mother grew up. My friends are always pleased when I make these and sometimes give them the leftover stuffing to freeze for when they want to add a special something to the meal they are to make.
My cooking tragedies
When I first started making biscuits and gravy from scratch I had some amateur mishaps from letting the gravy burn!! I have since perfected this simple task and enjoy it often!!
