The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Excellent, excellent sugar cookie. Even with re-rolling the dough scraps, they came out puffed up and soft. Yes, use powdered sugar when rolling. And Alton's good old trick, keep a pan in the freezer and place over the dough after you're done rolling it to suck out the heat before cutting. I iced with a basic royal icing recipe (meringue powder really is the best, isn't it? Available at Wal-Mart or baking stores!) and they turned out gorgeous. Roll them a little thicker if you want even softer cookies. Thanks a bunch for this one!

Thai-Style Peanut Sauce with Honey

This was pretty darn good. I used it with my chicken sate, broccoli and rice noodle combo since it needed some sauce. It went great! Thanks for a keeper!

Cream Cheese Ranch Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
I truly don't think I shall make mashed potatoes any other way from now on. It's like eating sour cream and onion potato chips, but mashed! Easy, not too much extra cost, and just delicious! I could add more cheese if I wanted, but you don't need to with these. Thanks for the idea!

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
I was truly happy with how these turned out... the second time I did it. When done correctly, these are pleasantly chewy and soft and taste just as good as any tortilla made elsewhere. Use the lard! You'll be glad that you did.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
What a fantastic brownie recipe! Sometimes, when the recipe calls for this much sugar you might get a grainy texture, but this was smooth, fudgy and delicious! Akin to that box you get at the store, but oh so much better! Don't change a thing about it and you'll be much rewarded. I'll have to take these to work or I'll eat them all!

White Cheese Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2009
Pretty much the closest sauce that I've made to the real thing you get at tex mex restaurants. The taste and smell is almost spot on, but the consistency isn't quite there. That being said, I LOVE this recipe. I'll be using it and experimenting some more with it to tailor it to my own tastes, but go with exactly what it says to get a great tasting white cheese sauce.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
Such a great recipe for pancakes! I didn't make the syrup suggested, but these taste wonderful alone or with regular maple syrup. The recipe does make a lot of pancakes, so I usually split it in half and still have plenty.

Easy Spicy Roasted Potatoes

How can such a little thing like chili powder made such a difference? Love it! Now I'll have to start putting garlic powder and chili powder on my baked potatoes too...

Scotcharoos

Anyone from the northern midwest can tell you what excellent little treats these are. Perfect for bake sales, after school snacks or a hide-away treat for yourself! These have a soft spot from my childhood and I'm glad I came upon a recipe that is as simple and delicious as these should be! Thanks!

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2009
Very good recipe for lemonade. Best thing is to keep things basic. I need about 6 medium sized lemons for this. And it is much better to make the simple syrup instead of just adding the sugar. Although, I keep my syrup balanced, equal parts sugar and water (in other words, I cut the sugar back to one cup; It's really all you need).

Brownie Torte

Ehh... Not that impressed with this recipe. I think it's the addition of the corn syrup that makes this taste "greasy". Not much chocolate flavor either, and I used a good quality chocolate too.

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
A very powerful marinade. Doesn't really need the extra garlic or hot sauce (really depends on your taste preference). I'll use this again, but probably marinate for less time (I left the steaks in the fridge for 6 hours, and it was quite an overpowering taste).

Banana Crumb Muffins

Oh my gosh, I ate half of these before I knew what I was doing. Seriously delicious, very moist, and sweet and crunchy on top. Perfect banana muffin. You can add some nuts for those who want them, but completely perfect by itself. Thank you soooo much!

Caramel Popcorn

This recipe is pretty darn awesome. The only reason it wasn't perfect is because I messed it up! Remember everybody, oven temps and times vary. But it still tasted great and everyone ate it all. So no complaints. I'll try it again and keep my eye on it...

Penne a la Vodka II

Really, you don't have to change anything at all for this recipe, unless it's for your own tastes. Myself, I would probably use less red pepper. But please try as is and be thankful for a wonderful recipe!

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Fantastic! Everyone at the table loved it. I didn't exactly follow all the measurements, especially when it came to how much cheese to use (I used more). I would recommend a good sharp cheddar (aged 6 or more years if you can find it) too. Definately will make again.

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Oh my gosh, what a find here! I didn't change the recipe one bit, and it comes out wonderfully. Everyone raved about this one, and I'll definately make it again. For serving, either pipe it into tuiles, or I'm going to try forming the mousse into balls, freezing them, and then dipping them into chocolate. Thanks for the recipe!

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
Delicous! Simple and elegant, perfect for a gathering where there's not a lot of time to be in the kitchen. We sprinkled the mozarella directly on the bread to melt it a little, then stuck the tomato mixture on top so you get that nice warm gooey with cold crunchy (that's a technical term). Thanks a bunch!

Mediterranean Crescent Pinwheels

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
A very wonderful addition to my get-together! I actually didn't get to eat any of these because they disappeared before I could get one. It shouldn't be too salty, if you're using the regular smoked prosciutto. I bought everything at Trader Joe's (except the crescent rolls, obviously) and they had a wonderful mediterranean spiced feta cheese that worked wonderfully! Also, for preparation, I made these earlier in the day and just stuck them in the fridge. Baked them right before people started coming over. Definately making these again!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Well this was certainly interesting. A great cake, very moist. Very very chocolately. I usually like cakes that are a bit more dense and heavy, but I enjoyed this one nonetheless.
