About this Cook
I grew up in the Mid-West and moved to TN after high school. Finally wound up out West, first in CO then AZ. I have garnered recipes from everywhere we have lived, but really enjoy Western cuisine - especially Mexican! We are now Empty Nesters, which means learning to cook for 2 instead of 4, and revising old favorites to healthier levels with good taste!(Lots of herbs and spices!)
My favorite things to cook
I love finding new dinner recipes and trying them out on the family. My husband really enjoys this also, as long as I keep it healthy. I love to bake bread, pies, cookies, and cakes as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
There is a refrigerated cheesecake that has become a #1 favorite for holidays as well as in the summer. Also my apple pie is especially favored by my son-in-law.
My cooking triumphs
Where I grew up, we had a County Youth Fair you could get into free if you entered something. I actually got blue ribbons several years in a row for a dump cake recipe from my Grandmother, and for her cinnamon rolls. One year I even won a 2nd place for her white yeast bread, over entries from lots of mothers and grandmothers!
My cooking tragedies
It took me forever to get baking powder biscuits right! One batch was so heavy, my Dad warned me not to drop any on the floor - they might break it! I wasn't alone in this - my daughter had the same experience!
