About this Cook
Just the other side of 50, raised 3 wonderful sons mostly on my own. Helped raise 2 other girls. Gone though alot of family illness and taking care of others. So I had to be creative in the kitchen.
My favorite things to cook
I always loved the "old" recipies my mom had from the "old days". We would modify some, but many stayed orginal. Now, because I'm disabled, I stick to easy. Slow cookers are the best, but still love to bake cakes and cookies. My kids still love my meatloaf and some old standbys.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting my sons to help when I can. It gives us time to talk and catch up on everything from our daily lives to news. The best part of cooking with my kids is reminincing about grandma/grandpa would make or do something. Cooking brings back many happy memories. All my sons love to watch the cooking shows, the oldest has become a culinary "expert"and my middle son, Joey is an excellent cook.
My cooking triumphs
Getting the icing perfect for my mom's Red Velvet Cake.
My cooking tragedies
Red Velvet cake. Ever since my mom passed away in 96, my son Joey and I have been trying to duplicate the Red Velvet cake she used to make for holidays. The one I made for his birthday tasted like cardboard. We ended up throwing an entire cake away.
