My favorite things to cook
I have to say that my favorite dishes to cook (and subsequently eat) are seafood. I'm especially partial to fish. However, I try to make everything I cook healthy, and absolutely enjoy finding recipes which allow me the liberty of substituting nutritious ingredients for those which are a bit heavier in caloric or fat content. This completely contradicts the fact that my favorite thing to eat is buttercream frosting.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a child, my Mom baked frequently and would let me help her to the point short of becoming a hinderance. Afterwards, she's always let me have the beaters! For those reasons, I think that baking is a favorite kitchen activity of mine. To this day, when I make the occasional trip home, she still asks if I want the beaters when she finishes her baking!
My cooking triumphs
I love baking, and I don't necessarily like to keep it around the house since I'm one of those individuals who lacks self-discipline with desserts, so I frequently try things out on people at my office. Whatever I chose to bake, it's always been a hit. Either that, or they don't want to kill my little baking ego-trip!
My cooking tragedies
I've had the ocassional run-in with a box of confectioner's sugar. I end up with some very interesting shirt art! I also recall one particular incident involving my brother and myself. We were probably about 9 or 10 years old, and I decided that we'd try to make some buttercream frosting following my Mom's recipe. We were home alone, and it was an absolute disaster. So that our Mom wouldn't find out what we'd done, I had my brother go out back and try to bury it in the yard (seemed like a brilliant idea at the time). Unfortunately, my brother decided to bury the CONTAINER with it, which my Dad found the next day. BUSTED!
