Hi, I'm Karen. I'm 40, married with 4 kids - two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 16 down to 6. For the past three years my husband and I have been renovating a century farm house where we plan on moving to by the end of August. I'm looking forward to entertaining friends and family more out there than I do in our cramped, no parking city house.
My favorite things to cook
I do enjoy baking so really any type of dessert would be a favourite. But really, anything at all. I barbeque all the time in the summer (and even in the winter, so long as I can get through the snow to the bbq!).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hmmm,,, well Sunday mornings we always have bacon or sausage and eggs, baked beans etc. and we all look forward to that each week. Other than that, not much. I am looking forward to hosting all the traditional holidays for extended family once we are in our new home.
My cooking triumphs
My husband really appreciates my cooking and so do my kids. Most days I get a call from hubby on his way home from work asking what his dinner will be. I like that he looks forward to it. Thats good enough for me.
My cooking tragedies
Well, not really a tragedy but definitely a funny story. When I was much younger, hubby (then boyfriend) and I were having another couple over to dinner. I had gone to the farmers market that morning and purchased the roast beef which I planned to make for the dinner. During cooking, my future MIL called to ask how the food prep was going (she's a great cook), and I told her I wasn't too sure - my 'beef' looked very pale. Turns out I'd somehow bought a roast pork instead of beef. Her advice, open up a jar of applesauce and continue on! I did and it was fine - lol!
