About this Cook
Currently living and working in Germany
My favorite things to cook
Anything that tastes good or sounds good at the moment. I don't shy away from things I haven't tried. I love making healthy things that taste awesome. It's so much fun to experiment.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up in the south, I still have a taste for those high fat, high carb dishes. I still make them for special occasions, you know, the potatoe salad with a half jar of mayo, or the 7-layer salad that has more fat than fiber. Sooooo good.
My cooking triumphs
I hated veggies as a kid, but as a new vegetarian, I am experiencing a whole world I never knew existed. Who knew you could create a meal where the veggie is the main event? And its actually GOOD!!
My cooking tragedies
Christmas 2006, I wanted to make a chocolate rasberry cheesecake that I make every year around the holidays. It was going to be for a Christmas Party and the first time my new friends would have it. Since it was my first Christmas in Germany, I did not realize that the one of the main ingredients, sweetended condensed milk, was unheard of over here. The American grocery store on base was closed for the holiday and so I went online to see if there was a way I could whip up my own using sugar and regular evaporated milk. Well, it did NOT turn out. Instead, I brought a bottle of wine to the party! It was and interesting attempt though!
