About this Cook
I love to cook, therefore I have (but love to, also) to exercise! I'm an avid runner - have run a few marathons, was out for awhile with injuries, but now, with a new lab mix pound puppy who loves to run, too, am enjoying the thrill of running again down leaf-canopied paths in our community.
My favorite things to cook
I'm always looking for high-fiber and low-calorie. Healthy, vegetable dishes, hearty, high-grain breads, with low fat meat dishes are what I focus on for me and my family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family was brought up raising a garden and our own cattle, so eating healthy has been a way of life for us. Our beef was always much lower fat than most you find in the stores (I would have compared it to the store - 95% lean). Being also raised in a very athletic family, we always were very conscious of what we put into our body being the fuel for future energy expenditures. My children are also health conscious and aware that frequent exercise must be ingrained as part of your life - a healthy habit to be compared to brushing your teeth or being well-groomed otherwise.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking "meals" was something I never enjoyed. As a youngster, I grew up enjoying being creative with baking sweets and breads. The learning curve was trying to enjoy cooking meals (I found a glass of wine, helps, too) and the gratification that comes from those who enjoy the meals you prepare.
My cooking tragedies
Burning things. I'm easily distracted. :)

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel
Everyone loved the streusel topping - a nice change from the traditional crust topping.
