Grandma Johnson's Scones
Best I have ever had. Got this recipe from my friend carly. So good! Some tips she gave me where the following: *When you add the wet ingredients, you can add vanilla or any other extract (orange, lemon, etc.). I do a couple teaspoons of each flavor. Orange goes well with dried cranberries, which I stir in where it says to add raisins. Vanilla combines well with lemon, or just vanilla alone is yummy too. **When you have placed the scones on the baking sheet you can brush egg over the top of them to make the scones look more browned and “finished”. It’s just for looks, totally optional. ***If you add berries, I recommend frozen berries to keep from “smushyness”. Cut large berries before adding, and add when the recipe says to add raisins. Any dried fruit could work as an add-in (craisins are my personal fave). ****It says to cut in 12 pieces, but if you do these will be huge scones. I make 2 smaller rounds and cut about 8 wedges per round. You can also just make them square, but they are not as cute that way :)
