Will and I when he interimed in NJ
About this Cook
Our two children are grown and live away. My mother taught me to sew when I was in 7th grade and I've sewn ever since. I love to quilt - when it's cool - LOVE gardening, and enjoy scrapbooking. Novels by Nora Roberts and Maeve Benchy are my favorites. I make purses to sell at Craft Fairs - thus the name Purse Lady.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking simple foods and especially enjoy cooking for company. I've mastered light cooking to the point that it tastes wonderful and looks just as good. My husband and I prefer to eat at home because my light cooking is so good - out it's bland and colorless. I enjoy making appetizers for company.
My favorite family cooking traditions
From the time our son was 18 months old, in 1970, we have had beef and chicken fondue on Christmas eve. I make a blue cheese sauce and a bernaise sauce. A friend at that time gave me recipes she got for the sauces in Germany. Our grown kids still expect that when they come home.
My cooking triumphs
Probably my appetizer parties. I love making things up and they go over great. and I make the best homemade salad dressing - no recipe. Just some of this and some of that.
My cooking tragedies
While in church I put a casserole in the oven on the timer to go on and off - it didn't go off. We had a black casserole and ate out of the middle. AND when we got home, we had to open all the windows in the house to let the smoke out. VERY embarrasing since it was for my husbands favorite college professor several years before.

Poke Cake II
I used to make this all the time and am making it for coffee hour at church this Sunday. AND I'm making it with the diet sprite and sugar free jello - an elderly member of church told me that's how she makes it and it's delicious. However, I do remember that we used to "poke" this with the handle of a wooden spoon leaving nice holes for the Jello to go down. This is an old recipe that always goes over really well.

Campbell's(R) Golden Chicken with Noodles
I cut the recipe in half so I got 2 meals out of it. When the "planned overs" were reheated, I added abut 1/2 cup lite sour cream. YUMMO! As it was though, it was delicious. We'll definitely make it again. I've had surgery and was looking for something simple my husband could fix in the crock pot and this was perfect. HE'LL do it again too! Maureen

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
I did this using a whole oven roaster. DELICIOUS! And I made chicken/corn/rivel soup with the leftover chicken (got 3 meals of that). This was so good I sent it on to some working friends. Thanks. Maureen
