Orange Walnut Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
OK, I am tore on this recipe, so I'm giving it 3.5 stars. It was super easy to prepare and smells great, tastes fantastic (sweet/tart flavor). However, as written, the recipe was not firm enough for me to roll into balls, and I actually halved the melted butter to begin with. I ended up adding 1/2-3/4 cups extra confectioners' sugar and kneaded that in really well; that worked! I rolled into balls, but for some reason the nuts would NOT stick to them even though the dough was sticky enough to have stuff adhere to it (not the recipes fault). I was getting so frustrated that I just dumped about 1 cup of the nuts into the mixture, kneaded them in, rolled into balls and rolled those into orange colored sanding sugar. They ended up being very good, but very sweet, which is fine w/ me...candy is supposed to be sweet! All in all I really liked the flavor of these and plan to try them again sometime, maybe rolling in finely crushed vanilla wafer crumbs or something. Thanks for posting. :)

Mocha Nut Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
Very good AND easy! I doubled the amount of instant cofee and crushed it up so it would better distribute throughout the fudge. I only added about 3/4 cup of walnuts because though I am a huge fan of nuts, it just seemed like way to many for this recipe. Let me just say that the aroma of this fudge cooking made my whole house smell like a chocolate/coffee factory! I stirred it until it formed a shiny ball in the pot and added the nuts, stirring to combine. My first thought was to put it into a pan instead of rolling into a log, but I felt that it was too stiff to spread it out nicely enough. I rolled it into 1 long log instead of 2 and it formed perfectly once I wrapped it up in the plastic wrap. It also cut very nicely once chilled. I am already planning on making another batch this week! Thanks for posting. :)

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
We enjoyed this roast a lot! I made it exactly as written and about 1-1/2 hours before it was done I added in a bag of drained and rinsed sauerkraut, which soaked in all the juices and tasted wonderful w/ the pork. I cooked mine for 8 hours, but next time I think I'll go less, maybe 7 because it was just a tinge dry. The house smelled amazing while it was cooking and we thought it had great flavor and was nice and tender. I will be making this again! Thanks for posting. :)

Butterscotch Spice Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
This cake is very good! I made it exactly as written and topped it (once cooled) with a quick vanilla glaze and red and green cherries. It smelled great while baking and my mother-in-law really enjoyed it. This cake is super simple to make and with the addition of the glaze and cherries it was very festive. Thanks for posting. :)

These cookies really exceeded my expectations. I omitted the walnuts and used mini peanut butter chips in place of the chocolate chips. I will most definately be using this recipe again! Thanks for posting. :)

Sesame Thumbprint Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
Very Good! The only thing I do differently is use 1/2 cup of sugar and double the almond extract (I find that I lose some of the almond flavor during baking). Oh, and I always need more than 2 tbsp. of sesame seeds for rolling the dough balls in. I make these every year for Christmas and everyone absolutely LOVES them! :)

Peppermint Drops

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
These cookies were AWESOME! I followed the recipe exactly except that I didn't want to wait 4 hours before making , so I popped it into the freezer for about an hour and they were ready to go. I rolled mine into red/green sanding sugar before baking. I also didn't flatten them at all before baking and when I took them out of the oven I pressed in the peppermint kiss, which flattened them out nicely. I used 1-1/2 teaspoons of peppermint extract and I think that was perfect, for us anyways. Thanks tat for a geat new cookie recipe! :)

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
WOW! These cookies really live up to their name. They are very delicate and tender and totally melt-in-your-mouth. I added about 3/4 teaspoon vanilla to the batter and topped mine with mini M&M candies. They looked great and tasted even better! I used a small cookie scoop and got about 44 out of the recipe. I will definately be using this recipe from now on! Thanks for posting. :)

Coffee Bonbons

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
YUMMY! Made them exactly as written, except that I crushed up the instant cofee in my hand before combining it with the flour because I wanted it to be finer and better distributed. The dough is pretty sticky at first, but once you refrigerate it, about an hour or so, it becomes super easy to work with. After I frosted them, I dipped the tops into chocolate sprinkles and they looked really beautiful. I used a small cookie scoop and was able to get 35 out of the recipe. I know these are gonna be a hit on my Christmas cookie trays this year! Thanks for posting. :)

FANTASTIC! I added a little finely chopped green onion and opted not to roll in the pecan/parsley mixture, but instead shaped it into a turkey for my Thanksgiving appetizer. Everyone went crazy for this cheeseball. I will be using this recipe VERY often! Thanks for posting. :)

Mac and Cheese Henwood Style

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
This was a really nice mac and cheese recipe. I used more onion than called for (like 1/4 cup total), slightly more velveeta (for a more cheesier flavor) and after tasting it and deciding it needed a little something more, about 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic. Next time I will use fresh garlic (1-2 cloves), and cook it with the onions. When I first tasted the sauce on it's own I wasn't impressed, but once I added the noodles and baked it, the flavors melded perfectly. Don't be fooled by the amount of blue cheese used, you can definately taste it, but in a good way. I will use this recipe again from time to time for something different from the norm! Thanks for posting. :)
