About this Cook
I like food:) I like to cook and I love to make baked goods and give them away.
My favorite things to cook
Soup! I love to make soups, especially stocks, both beef and chicken. I also like to make chili A LOT!!!!, my own style though :) I've made some sweet clam chowder, but I'd like more experience with cream soups and purees. I love chowders, too. I like chowder a lot.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is a German/Scandinavian farm family, so that's a lot of meat and potatoes and seasonal or canned/frozen vegetables. It's kind of narrow, so I'm looking to expand, especially into Hispanic/Latino foods as I married a Puerto Rican who was raised on rice dishes. Also, I love to make traditional Norwegian dishes with my family, especially lefse.
My cooking triumphs
I love my chicken soups and I've gotten some good reviews on my from scratch chicken pot pie.
My cooking tragedies
Let's just say I sometimes just dive into the cupboard and make casserole out of whatever I find. Sometimes the results are not what I'd imagined.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Marble Cake
I used a cup of creamy peanut butter instead of peanut butter chips, and I threw in a little vanilla. This went over awesome! It was rich and moist and dense, and the peanut butter lovers were in heaven! I left the leftovers for a family with kids, and they brought their friends over just to taste the cake.

Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce
I have finally tweaked this recipe to where my hubby likes it. I triple the corn starch, use half the vinegar, and triple the brown sugar. Yep, it's a pretty big departure. :) I make it with homemade chicken nuggets, so the husband can have them without the fillers from a fast food joint!

Asparagus Potato Soup
I added 2 cloves of garlic and used chicken stock instead of water and buillion. I also ended uo putting a lot of pepper in this soup to eat it. Next time I will use more salt and more asparagus. I might put some bacon directly in the soup also. It was good though.
