About this Cook
Single mother who is just begining to take an interest in cooking and has learned alot from this website. Have one son in college who will eat anything I make.....but is enjoying food more now since I get all my recipes from here! It helps that you get to read all the good and bad before you try making it yourself!!
My favorite things to cook
Anything with less than 5 steps , that may be the ADHD speaking :) Anything baked or with syrup.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I make a Filipino dish that she learned in Manila called Lumpia. it takes all day, but it's wonderful. and her homemade lasagna, I don't like to tackle big cooking jobs like that by myself, so I con my mom into making it and help.
My cooking triumphs
I made Creme Brulee French Toast on Christmas eve. (cooked it in the am) It started out just an idea to give my mom a break from having to do breakfast Christmas morning. The entire family loved it! They can't believe I made it. I've made it 3 times since, yumm!! The scones I've just made recently 3 versions, are amazing :+)
My cooking tragedies
Any kind of meat on a bone. I don't know WHY I can't make Fried Chicken! My grandmother made the best, but we can't read her recipe, and she has Alzheimers, so the recipe is stuck in her head :(

Best Steak Marinade in Existence
I cut the recipe back a bit, since i was only marinating one rather large chunk of steak. I used real minced garlic instead of dried, and added a 1/2 cup of Merlot. Whisked it all together in a bowl and poured over steak in gallon-freezer bag, marinated 1 1/2 days. Cooked in the oven. I never got to taste it, but my son ate the entire piece of meat (enough for 3 people). He literally couldn't stop going back for more! Next time I will get to try it too. No need to look any further for a marinade recipe this is it!! Thanks SO much for this great recipe.

Giant Crisp Chocolate Chip Cookies
If you're looking for a buttery crispy chocolate chip cookie, this is it!!! I'm so happy to find a recipe that makes them like this, every time. I used 3/4 brown,3/4 white sugar, and cooked for 11 minutes. Then added some chopped pecans to second half of dough and made some chocolate pecan cookies baked @ 12 minutes. These are wonderfully crispy and warm right out of the oven. Yay! :+)

Chocolate Velvet Ice Cream
Soooooo rich and creamy!! I used 2 cps heavy cream & 2/3 cp half/half. I increased the cocoa powder to a 1/2 cp for a more intense chocolate flavor. Also added 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 2 Tb of Kahlua. I finely-grated Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Bar into icecream mixture in the last 5 minutes of churning. If eaten like softserve it tastes like chocolate mousse with a more subtle chocolate flavor. When frozen more firmly the next day all the rich flavors of cocoa, cinnamon, and Kahlua blend together for an unbelievably smooth and creamy treat!
