About this Cook
I am a certified personal trainer and weight loss coach. Years ago I had a catering business, and I've been a cake decorator for over 20 years. Having one foot in the fitness world and the other in food,I decided to combine the two by leaning more towards healthy cooking. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate and enjoy some high end treats from time to time. All things in moderation.
My favorite things to cook
Vegetables, grilled meat and poultry, and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with my daughters during the holiday season, especially preparing the cookie packages for family and friends. Coming up with new marinades with my husband when he mans the grill.
My cooking triumphs
Catering a wedding reception in the middle of July in a hall with no air conditioning. Cabbage rolls, baked chicken and dressing, scalloped potatoes, sausage and sauerkraut were on the menu. It was way too hot for all that heavy food, but that's what the client wanted. I also managed to patch up the wedding cake every time the frosting slid down the sides of the cake. It was hot in there!!!
My cooking tragedies
The first decorated cake I made for my brother. On my way out the door to take it to him, I dropped it. I was eight months pregnant at the time and my hormones were all over the place. I think I cried for two days.

Buttermilk Pound Cake
I cater small parties and am a cake decorator and this is hands down one of the best pound cakes I've ever made. There's only one hiccup with this recipe; the top develops an almost cookie like crust as does the inside around the tube. I use the recipe as stated with no revisions and get the same result (cookie like crust) each time. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen or has any ideas on why it happens. I will continue to use this recipe cookie crust and all because the taste is great!
