I love to cook and trying new things is in my blood. Perhaps that's why I love Allrecipes.com so much? Cooking and eating are two of my most beloved past times, and I have a husband that genuinely appreicates it all, making my hobby that much more enjoyable.
My favorite things to cook
I try to eat as healthy as I can, but I have an enormous sweet tooth. I love to bake; cookies, cakes, pastries - you name it, I'll at least make an attempt! I've made a promise to myself, however, that I will never bake without occaision to bring my goods to someone else. If I baked solely for myself and my family's enjoyment I would put us all in the hospital from sugar overload! I also love cooking with fresh herbs and vegetables. Every year I wait with anticipation for the summertime farmers markets to open.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is that we had none. Growing up, we never had the same meal twice. Of course, we have our "perfect" recipes that will show up every so often, but Holidays in our home never consisted of the same old boring green bean casserole and ham. There was always an exciting twist on the menu that was new or different every year. Now that I have a family of my own, I try to make change a tradition as well. Everyone I know expects me carry on my tradition of baking for every holiday, but they never know what they are going to get!
My cooking triumphs
I've pretty much mastered the art of making any drop cookie. My co-workers joke that I will have a job baking them cookies if my career ever goes south.
My cooking tragedies
I made a Butter Pecan Rum Ice Cream cake that would have turned out delicious...except that I put too much rum in the ice cream and it didn't freeze! I left it over night only to find it completely melted at the bottom of my freezer the next morning. I was so disappointed. The drippings tasted delicious, though. If I figure out how to perfect this, I'll make sure I post it!
