Smothered Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
This was delicious!! I used pole beans, and shallots instead of onions...I was in a hurry, so I sauteed the bacon, garlic and shallots, salt and pepper while I steamed the beans seperately in the microwave for 2 minutes. When the bacon was pretty crispy, I added the beans and sauteed for a few minutes. I will definately make this again. I actually have made a version of this recipe using proscuitto, shallots, garlic, salt, white pepper, and brussel sprouts instead of the beans...it's THE only way to eat brussel sprouts!!!

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
This was so good! I had no idea that my favorite soup would be so easy and quick to make! I did make a few changes....I added a pinch of sugar and carmelized the onions, this took about 30 minutes. Then I added garlic powder, white pepper, thyme, bay leaf, and beef broth. Next time I will add an extra can of broth, but that may just be my personal preference. I will be making this on a regular basis!!

Choco Shortbreads

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
These were pretty good...I think that my family prefers a softer cookie, so I don't know that I would make these again, but for those who like a crisp cookie, this is a great recipe. I do think that if I made these again, I would cook them for less time than 25 minutes.

Spaghetti Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
This is pretty good. I added sliced zuchini to the meat mixture, as well as fresh garlic and onions. I also used skim-ricotta, fresh mozzarella, light sour cream and light cream cheese, along with some italian seasonings to make the filling. I might make this again, but I think we prefer a saucier pasta, and I will probably stick with my baked ziti...It was a good change from regular spaghetti though!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
I will definitely make this again...I really liked the sauce, but next time I will double it like some other reviewers suggested...the chicken was not as tender as I would have liked, but that was my own fault...that got my wheels turning that this would be a great slow cooker recipe...next time I might just try it that way.

Colorful Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
We liked this alot...I added broccoli, and diced a small white onion because my green onion did not look fresh, half soy sauce and half teryiaki sauce from "baked teryiaki chicken " recipe from this site. Served this on the side of the chicken...Will definately make this again!! The only thing that I will do differently is to scramble the egg by itself then add it at the end- when I added it into the mix, it really did not scramble, it just kind of mixed in with the rice and veggies and you didn't have pieces of egg like you do in restaurant style fried rice. Other than that, it was great!

Ham 'n' Swiss Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
YUM YUM!!! I made these for my 2 year old for lunch, and put ham and cheddar cheese in 2 for her, and in the rest I put ham, onions and gouda (I didn't have swiss, and I don't care for mustard, so I left that out)SO GOOD!!! I was thinking of all of the different yummy stuff that you could do with this...I can't wait to play with this recipe!! (I'm thinking individual baked brie's!) Thanks for the good post!!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
This frosting is SO delicious!! I whipped the cream until it was super thick and stiff, then put it in the fridge until I was ready to fold it into the cream cheese mixture...I used it as filling for the "pumpkin gobs" recipe from this site...delicious...but I do agree with others that this frosting is not thick enough to pipe, and I am not sure how it would hold up on a layered cake...I think you would have to keep it refridgerated...I will make this again!!

Pumpkin Gobs

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
We loved these!! The pumpkin cake part is so moist and delicious...I added a pinch of allspice, but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I used the whipped cream cream cheese frosting from this site!! The only reason I did not give these 5 stars is because they are a bit messy to eat, so I think next time I will double the recipe and make these into cupcakes or maybe just put forsting on top...I will definatly be making these again!!

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

These were alright...most of them got thrown away, but maybe we just don't like pumpkin seeds...probably won't take the time or ingredients to make these (or any pumpkin seeds)again.

Crispy Herb Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
This was so yummy!! I did add some additional spices, some italian seasoning, extra garlic powder, onion powder, etc. I served it with asparagus and parmesean rice...it earned raves from my hubby, and my 2 year old loved it too...I will definitely make this again, but I will double coat it...I double dipped a couple of the pieces, but I was unsure if the breading would be too thick, so I did not double coat every piece...but the double dipped pieces were perfect! Thanks for the yummy recipe!!

Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
OK, so this is like 2 recipes in one-one for the cookies and one for the frosting-If I were reviewing the cookies alone, I would give them a 4...they are light, airy, and yummy...easy to work with too, they were perfectly done after 5 min. in my oven...The frosting, though. Personally, I feel that 'buttercream' should have at least one of those two ingredients in it...it tasted like pure shortening,(and I followed the recipe to a tee) also, because it was so greasy from the shortening, I literally had to run my dishwasher 2 times to get all of the residue off of the dishes (I put the mixing bowl in the dishwasher, and everything came out greasy) On top of this, the frosting did not hold color very well- it kept seperating out...maybe it would have been better if I had used the gel color, but I probably won't make these again to see...to the reviewer who stated that they would be using this frosting for all of their cakes from now on, may I make a suggestion? If you like this, try "Rick's special buttercream" from this site...WAY BETTER, just as easy...

Baked Brie in Puff Pastry

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
Delicious!! I used apricot preserves and almonds in the brie and wrapped in in crescent roll dough...next time I will use the puff pastry because the crescent roll dough was VERY hard to work with, and there were so many seams...that is the one thing that I would definatley reccommend-make sure you do not have any cracks in whatever you are wrapping the brie in...a bit of my cheese oozed out, but it was no big deal...will definately make again many times!!

Heather's Cilantro, Black Bean, and Corn Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
This is yummy! I made some changes though, just because I read the recipe, but didn't print it out, and I was going by memory, so I forgot the avacado, (which I didn't have anyway),the can of tomatoes and the red onion but not scallions...i used some fresh chopped garlic, and some dashes of hot sauce, salt and lemon and lime juices...I also omitted the oil to keep it even lower fat...this is good as soon as it's done, but even better the next day once the flavors meld together...thanks for the great recipe!

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2007
The name really suits this-it is amazing!Amazingly easy and delicious! When I found this recipe, I knew it was a great base to start with...and after reading many reviews I decided to make some additions and substitions. First, I seasoned the loin with pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, bay, rosemary and thyme. Then I seared it on all sides before putting it in the crock pot with 3/4 cup Malbec, 1/2 c. h2o, 1/2 c. reduced sodium chicken stock, 1/2 of a package onion soup mix, 1/2 sliced onion, 2tbls. soy sauce, and more of the herbs that I seasoned the pork with. I cooked it on low for 5 hours...the pork shredded beautifully, and I drained the juices from the crock pot into a sauce pan, brought to a boil and added 1 tbls. cornstarch and made a delicious gravy...served with steamed broccoli and mashed baby red potatoes...this earned raves from my hubby and even my 2 year old (who never eats, I swear she is going to waste away to nothing) ate it up happily!!! Will DEFINATELY make this again!! Thanks llau!!

Creamy White Layers

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
I made a VERY similar version of this cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday...I compared this recipe with the one on the Wilton's website- same ingredients, different measurements...tastes great, a little heavy though, but that makes this cake perfect for tiers and fillings...used the special butter cream frosting from this website...HUGE HIT!!! Everyone was asking me where we bought the cake!!

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
Awesome!! Really easy, MUCH easier than other white frostings i've made-the shortening makes it more stable than butter...I did use 1/2 butter, 1/2 shortening, but made no other changes- made a castle cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday...was a HUGE hit...People asked me where we bought the delicious cake! I am making another cake for a friend towmorrow...will be making another batch of this for sure!! Thanks so much for this recipe!!
