About this Cook
I like to cook when I have the time, but I still have a lot to learn. The thought of cleaning up afterwards usually puts me off because I tend to be quite messy in the kitchen ;)
My favorite things to cook
all manner of breakfast foods, italian food and smoothies; as well as chicken dishes, muffins and cupcakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every christmas my mom makes Austrian chocolate balls. I've helped her a few times. They are so delicious. She used to make some for our teachers when my siblings and I were in elementary school and everyone always wanted the recipe! Now I think every holiday season I will attempt making them myself.
My cooking triumphs
Nearly 10 years ago, I made some rather good stuffed mushrooms with a bechamel sauce for my highschool french class. That is about as "gourmet" a dish that I have ever made.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make crab rangoon (fave appetizer ever!) once and it turned out awful-tasting. That's when I found out that I don't like ginger.

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti
This biscotti was excellent. My brother and I made a batch for a Mother's Day gift. We did have to add a little milk/water to the dough, as it was a little dry.

Black and White Pizza
This pizza was fantastic! I didn't have chicken on hand, so I made a meatless version. I used chopped chipotle peppers instead of the jalapenos (personal preference) and i used a shredded chesse mix that included swiss, mozarella and monterey jack. I also added some black pepper and parmesan cheese. It turned out great with the black beans sprinkled on top. I have since made the pizza a second time, spreading the crust with fat-free refried black beans (instead of the canned beans), spooning the alfredo sauce on top of the bean layer and then so on with the other toppings. The refried bean layer acts as a barrier to prevent the alfredo sauce from soaking too much into the pizza crust. My second attempt tasted just as delicious.

Almond Chocolate Biscotti
This biscotti was easy to make and came out fantastic. The use of the chocolate cake mix as an ingredient made it taste somewhat like a brownie. Yum!
