Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I've made this twice so far and did things different each time. Both times it turned out great! This is a fabulous recipe because it can be adjusted to work with what you have in your pantry. I didn't have dark corn syrup, so I used light corn syrup and it turned out great. Second time I added some brown sugar to the light corn syrup and it was even better. Don't have a double broiler so I put mixture in a glass bowl (oven-safe) and placed it on top of a pot filled half-way with water. Put it on the stove and turned it to medium, worked great!

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
These are a staple in our house. Make for every gathering and party I host and everyone always raves about them. I follow another reviewer's advice and use 2 tsp of water and 1 tsp of vanilla. Also add sugar mixture straight to the bowl with pecans. One bowl, so easy, and delicious!

Very good dip. Used full 8 oz package of cream cheese and might add more mozzarella next time, but will definitely make again!

I can't say enough good things about these! Just hosted a party and almost everyone asked for the recipe. Followed another reviewer's advice and cooked at 325 for the first 25 minutes and 350 for 20. So yummy, will be making more soon!

Hot Apple Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
This was really good and I don't even like apple cider! Only used half of an orange and lemon peel and I didn't remove the spices after 10 minutes; left them in about an hour and even added more cider and it turned out great.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I'm actually in love with this recipe! I can't think of enough good things to say about it. Although I know the submitter insisted not to substitute lower fat ingredients, being the rebel I am, I did it anyway. I used half and half and low sodium tomato juice. The results were outstanding, and I didn't miss the heavy whipping cream a bit! Enjoy...I'm going to say a prayer of thanks for finding this gem!

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
My family didn't love it. In fact, I can bet they won't ask for it again, so I had to give it 3 stars. I really like the cheesy artichoke flavor, but feel it would be more appropriate on a pasta or something other than chicken.

Easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Great ice cream! I followed cookinmama's advice and cut the peppermint extract down to 3/4 tsp. and the vanilla to 1/2 tsp. and I highly recommend using a good quality chocolate and shaving it instead of using the chips. Lastly, I tried to sub 1% milk and it just isn't the same.

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Easy, cheap alternative to Great American Cookie Co. Tastes good, but there's something about those darned mall cookies that can't be beat! I searched high and low for a 16" pizza pan to no avail, so I ended up using 2 9" rounds. I had to decrease the baking time by almost 5 minutes, but it turned out moist and perfectly done. The only thing I recommend is adding more vanilla; otherwise, it's a good recipe.

Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
This is a really good basic recipe. Personally, I have to disagree with the top reviewers about omitting the shortening. I've made this both ways, but yesterday I decided to follow the advice of the top two reviewers and use all butter. I was highly disappointed. The shortening is a must if you're looking for that bakery icing taste!!!!! Four cups is a lot of sugar, so depending on how sweet you like your icing, this can easily be adjusted. I opt for 1.5 tsp of vanilla. Adding more milk causes this to be runnier, and if you're using it for decorating, I'd hesitate to do it.

Cinnamon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I really wish I would've doubled this recipe b/c it was that good! My husband is a huge fan of the cinnamon ice cream at Maggie Moo's so I decided to make this at home with my ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchen Aid. I decreased the sugar to slightly less than a cup and used two egg yolks instead of the whole eggs. I mixed in crushed Butterfinger pieces. So yummy!

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
Okay, first let me say I had a houseful of skeptics when I said I was making black bean burritos, but these magnificent gems quietly hushed my meat-eating men. I took "Tina's" advice and doubled the recipe and added a can of Rotel w/jalapenos and seasoned it up with cumin, chili powder, and mexican seasoning. I also made homemade Mexican Rice from this site, and added rice and mexican cheese to the burritos when I stuffed them. I took all the leftover rice and added to the bean mixture and used the next day as a dip. Fabulous!!!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
Even with the 1/4 lb of butter, this isn't the moistest cornbread I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it's good, just not the best. I cut the sugar down to 1/3 c. and it was still plenty sweet enough. I strongly recommend frying this up in a cast iron skillet and topping with extra butter, it makes a big difference.

Spinach Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2009
This was really good for a healthy dish. I just diced my carrots and sauteed in the oil with a good bit of minced garlic and the onions. I spiced things up with Frank's Red Hot, used medium salsa, cumin, seasoned salt, fresh ground pepper, and chili powder. Served with a caesar salad and french baguettes.

Sausage Crescent Rolls

I love these, the hot sausage makes all the difference. I really like the idea of pepperoni and cheese, but it's just too heavy for my diet. I add a dash of black Mr. Pepper and garlic powder. Will make these again and again.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Yum!!! Don't even bother spending the extra time to heat this stuff up as recommended by "jdc4him". I've made this both ways and it doesn't make any difference. This is a great pumpkin pie recipe as written.
