I used to be a total foodie. I have 10 years' of Gourmet magazine which I find very hard to ever depart with despite how often I've moved. I'm a single mother of a 4 1/2 year old boy with tons of energy, so my cooking has kind of taken a back seat to other demands, but every now and then I get energy to whip something up. My goal is to get back into my cooking mode so that my son actually has memories of me cooking and things tasting good!
My favorite things to cook
Lemon risotto with salmon filets marinated in soy/lime/sugar, served with green beans tossed in basil pesto. It all works very well together! // Pannettone.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Staples for the holidays in my family are Cranberry Salad (cranberries, apple, pineapple and raspberry jello and walnuts), Indian pudding and wassail.
My cooking triumphs
Making a Basque Torta de Almendras for a group of friends, one of whom was Basque, and having him tell me it tasted exactly like it did back home.
My cooking tragedies
Yeast bread (except the occasional focaccia that I have pulled off).
