About this Cook
I am a wife and mother of two children, one teen and one tween. My husband is my high school sweetheart, we have been married for 17 years. I love to cook.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy trying new things, both taste wise and cooking wise. I would have to say that I enjoy baking the most, probably because I have a massive sweet tooth.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My paternal grandmother was a fantastic cook, she could take the toughest cut of meat and transform it into a melt in your mouth treat. She was also a wonderful baker, every year I would make pies with her for Thanksgiving. My mother is also a great cook, my family and I enjoy many of the recipes that she has passed down through the years. I am now the annual hostess of Thanksgiving dinner, a tradition that my mother has passed down to me.
My cooking triumphs
What I thought was a cooking tragedy turned out to be a triumph. This past Thanksgiving, as my husband was helping me put the 20 pound turkey into the oven, I commented to him that it looked upside down, he assured me that it wasn't. So, in the oven it went. Hours later when it was time to carve the turkey, we discovered that yes indeed, it had been cooked upside down. It was the best tasting, juiciest turkey we have ever eaten! I now intentionally cook chicken and turkey upside down.
My cooking tragedies
I can't think of any right now, my mind must have blocked them out...too painful.

Apple Crisp II
I made lots of changes but it was great! I used Macintosh apples. In the apple mixture I reduced the water to 1/4 cup and the sugar to 1/2 cup, I used 1 tablespoon of cornstarch instead of flour. I also added 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. For the topping, I doubled it and added 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans. I ground the oatmeal in a food processor (because my husband doesn't like the texture), added 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. I baked it for 55 minutes and then put it under the broiler for a few minutes to additionally crisp the top. It's wonderful!! Thanks for a terrific recipe.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.
These are soooo good. I made them for my niece's birthday, all the kids loved them...so did the adults. Excellent way to satisfy a craving for sweets.
