Best Brownies

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
The first time I tried it as per recipe and though they were rated highly by my husband with his extreme sweet tooth. I on my part thought it could do with a bit more of the chocolate flavour. So the next time I increased the cocoa to 1/2 cup and loved the results (though hubby obviously was partial to the original)So now this recipe is baked in our house in both its variations. I also like to eliminate the honey at times, though admittedly the icing looses some of its sheen as a result thereof. As far as the texture, the gooeyness and fudgyness are concerned, this one totally rules as long as you remember not to overbake.

Mama's Best Broiled Tomato Sandwich

It might just be me but most highly rated recipes I have tried from this site(barring a few exceptions) have turned out to be total duds. However, this one just blew me and everyone at home, away. This is a regular accompaniment to soup in our house and a lot of the times I use ranch dressing in lieu of the balsamic vinegar with excellent results. I have even used this as a pizza topping and have literally been praised to the skies. Bless the poster for the recipe and bless allrecipes for printing it. My soups are so much tastier since I discovered this.

Cheddar Baked Chicken

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
what a wonderful, wonderful way to jazz up baked chicken. I have a good mind to try this with whole chicken as a substitute for fried chicken. I had my suspicions regarding the copious amounts of butter indicated and used half the amount. Even then the chicken was a bit greasy and soggy from the bottom. Also not having egg at hand I used half and half mixed with a bit of cheddar cream cheese in lieu. I also added in 1/2 cup parmesan cheese to half cup cheddar and it turned out wonderful. I will definitely be forwarding this one to more than one person and would try to stick to the actual recipe the next time around :)

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

I should've realized before hand that the ratio to 1 1/2 cup flour never IS or can be 3 1/2 tsp baking powder. These came out bitter and all I (and everyone else) could taste was the baking powder. I am really shocked at the high rating and rave reviews. I might've made it again with less baking powder but i will not bother.

Anniversary Chicken I

I don't know what the big deal about this recipe is. I followed it exactly only adding a bit of fresh lemon juice and lots of garlic and let it cook on low for several hours. It turned out nice and succulent but certainly not the best chicken recipe I've ever tried which is what the reviews would have you believe. I will be trying it again but have way better recipes for special occasions. And no it is not too salty. I guess it depends on what brand of teriyaki sauce you are using.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

This was definitely too dry and could do with at least one cup more of liquid (if not more). I also threw in 2 cloves of garlic plus 1 tsp garlic powder to add some zing to the sauce. I dont' like boiled chicken and ended up stir frying it with a bit of salt, pepper and vinegar. For the crust I used the following recipe 3 cups flour mixed with 1 egg, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 TB vinegar, 1 cup shortening and a little less than 1/2 cup chilled water. I don't know what the big deal about this particular recipe is to earn so many rave reviews. There are way better recipes out there.

Roasted Tomato Salsa I

great recipe. I chopped the vegetables by hand instead of using the food processor, giving the salsa a chunkier texture. I also added in 1 tsp of tomato ketchup and a bunch of fresh mint leaves....heavenly!!!

Hershey's ® Chocolate Mousse

I was a bit suspicious of uncooked cocoa in the recipe and ended up cooking the cocoa powder and sugar in a bit of milk. This also justified the amount of gelatine, which in my opinion would not have been required without the milk. Also the amount of cream was way too much and i ended up doubling the other ingredients to cut down on the overpowering taste of the cream. Overall good with modifications.

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
The first time I made them as per the recipe and found them to be a bit too salty and crumbly. The second time around I used only 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 cup shortening and 1/2 cup +1-2 TB hot water with perfect results. I don't think ready made tortillas can match these in any way. Thanks a lot to the poster for the recipe and to the reviewers for their valuable tips.

All I can say is wow. The only thing I did different was add a little white pepper and some crushed garlic, being the garlic junkie that I am. I would definitely pass on this recipe.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

The only reason I am not rating it higher is because me and my family can not stand the taste of raw onions. I also added shredded meat slices for my meat loving hubby and threw in a bit of parmesan cheese. I would definintely make this again
