Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
My husband loved this recipe. I usually make the italian meatloaf recipe from this site but he told me he prefers this one...by far! For me personally it was a bit sweet. I used 1/4 cup brown sugar and only 1/4 cup milk (previous reviewer mentionaed to do this) and a couple splashes of Worcestershire sauce. I placed all the goods on the bottom and had no troubles at all. I also had used a packet of onion soup mix instead of an onion. Next time I will use an onion to see how it differs in taste. Next time I make this I will cut back a little more on the brown sugar. Very good!

Layin' the Chocolate Smack Down

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
Ohhh so sweet! The ONLY problem with this, is trying not to eat it all and trying not to eat all the brownies when you are placing them in the pan! This is so easy to make and will feed a lot of people. If I change anything in the future, I will top it with toffee instead of oreos....the oreos got a little soggy (I didn't crush them up though, I just placed the whole cookies on top).

Buttery Carrots 'n' Onions

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
FANTASTIC!!!! I made these as a side dish to our King crab and Lobster tails. It is hard to compete with a meal like that but when people started into the carrots the compliments were flying around like crazy! They are sweet, tender, and yummy!!!! I will make these more often! I did not make any changes to this recipe and probably won't. It is perfect the way it is!

Pie Crust IV

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
Very good! I added a couple tsp. of white sugar to give it a little extra sweetness. They say the sugar makes the dough stickier and harder to work with and to add confectioners sugar instead, but it seemed to work out fine for me. I used tips from this site and froze the shortening (use butter flavored...great taste!) before cutting it into the flour (it doesn't freeze, it just gets very cold) and I used ICE water. I then refrigerated for 30 minutes prior to rolling out. After I rolled it and placed it in the pan, I refrigerated another 30 minutes before putting my filling in (pumpkin..YUM!). This resulted in a good tasting, flaky crust.

Best Cream of Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
I pretty much followed this recipe as written. THe only thing I did or didn't do was add a whole onion. I used half of one, I had to simmer for about an hour to get the potatoes done (I had them sliced very thin) and it started to get a tad thick at the end so I added a touch more of chicken broth. I will make this again. I like the fact that it doesn't use half and half or heavy cream. Those are not things I keep on hand, but I always have whole milk for my youngster! My husband had the same thought as I did about the flavor and that is that it had an overwhelming taste of celery. I will omit the celery seasoning next time. The cayanne pepper gives it a perfect heat factor. I think a little more Worcestershire and white wine would be tasty too! Thank you for sharing!

Open-Faced Turkey Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
Just not my taste. I think the lemon juice adds an interesting curve into the mix. I love the onions, garlic cooked in the oil and the worcestershire and pepper. I think this would be a good one to play around with with using those as the base. Maybe a dijon mustard addition in place of the lemon juice and possibly changing the italian seasoning to something else. Thank you for sharing this, it's just not for me.

Salsa Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
It was good but next time I make this I will be making changes. This is a great base recipe. Next time I will put a mexican flare on it and add taco seasoning and spanish rice instead of the regular rice. Also, I may substitute the chicken for ground beef, just a personal preference.

Double-Cheese Eggs Benedict

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
For sure the greatest! Better than any restaurants! It isn't too heavy or rich. It is perfect! This is the first time I have made poached eggs and it was quite easy. I didn't make any changes to the recipe other than cutting the bacon, canadian bacon and muffins in half since it was only my husband and I eating. I will make this again and again probably without any changes to the recipe!

Lazy Lasagna II

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2007
This is good. I think adding some water or broth is a good idea. I also used ground sausage for this and added some italian seasoning. I used half the amount of ravioli's and put it in an 8x8 pan and it worked great. I also topped it off with some parmeasan cheese. I will surely make this again.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
This is a good recipe. I did nothing to change it up, other than a slice of cheese! There is another recipe I usually use for Sloppy Joes but it is very time consuming. This one is easy and quick (other than the simmer time which is perfect for getting the side dishes ready). Thank you for sharing. I will probably make this one again but I am not sure what, if any changes I will make.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
Very good crust. I actually made 3 batches of this and had a Calzone party. I premade the dough a couple hours ahead of time and refrigerated it so I wouldn't have to worry about all that while trying to prep everything else. I rolled it out and each batch made about 3-4 calzone circles. Everyone at the party commented on how good they were. I didn't add anything to the recipe and just let each individual season their own the way they desired. This is another one chalked up as one of my picky husbands favories! Thank you!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
20/20 STARS!!!! Before making this pie, I had never made a "real" pie. I had only made pudding pies with graham crusts. This was very easy to do. The first one I made was with the weave top. After the sauce was cooked. I poured the apples into that, mixed them around, then poured it all into the crust. I left a tiny bit of sauce in the pan. I put the weave on the top then brushed the left over sauce over it. I gave this pie away....sadly....and the family it went to raved about it saying it was the best ever. When it was heated for a few seconds, the caramel filling in the pie was nice a gooey with great taste. I then knew I had to make another for us! With that one I put the whole crust over the top instead of weaving it. I brushed it with some milk and sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on it. I think it needed maybe some egg with the milk but next time I will go back to the basket weave crust. It seemed to be more flakey that way. And yes, it was a wonderful tasting pie!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
This was a great pie. I used a homemade pie crust and real pumpkin for this recipe. The texture was a little off due to the fact that I didn't "puree" the pumpkin. Next time I will use canned pumpkin or be sure to puree my fresh pumpkin. The taste is wonderful when using something that isn't out of a can! I will be making this again and serving for the Holiday dinner!

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Mmmmmm! So moist! Unfortunately I cut the recipe down to make only 1 loaf. That was a big mistake! After cutting into the bread, it was devoured by the mouths of my family! The photo I took was the only reminance left of it! The only change I made was adding a touch more cinnamon. Otherwise I left everything as it was listed. I will surely be making this again and again!

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
Oh yea! I agree with the one that says if you could give it 10 stars I would! I used a rump roast from our quarter of beef we have. I'm sure 90% of this recipe depends on the quality of the beef you use. This one turned out SO PERFECT! There was not a single bit of toughness to this meat, it practically melted in my mouth it was so tender. My husband goes down in the books as the pickiest eater. He said this was "by far the best french dip" he has ever had! I seasoned the beef with some garlic powder and black pepper. Next time I will add a touch of salt. I followed everyone elses advice and put the cheese and butter on the buns and toasting them. This recipie was SO easy and convienient it may just have to become a weekly thing at our house this winter! Also, it is such a versitile recipe as far as the left overs go. Tonight I will be using the beef and some of the sauce to make a beef stroganoff! Thank you for the recipe!

Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2007
This is a great recipe. I, myself, am not a huge fan of creamed chipped beef due to lack of flavor but my husband LOVES the stuff. I just added a pinch of cayenne pepper and ground pepper to the sauce and buttered the toast up. We did not rinse the beef prior to making htis, but I think I will next time as it was very salty.

Fluffy Biscuits

Awesome! I followed the recipe as is. The only thing I added was brushing melted butter on the tops of them before placing them in the oven. They came out flakey and crisp on the outside and moist and soft on the inside. I will be keeping this recipe around! Thank you for sharing.

Quick and Easy Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2007
Very good and very easy! I added some potatoes, chopped celery and chopped onion to the mix. It tasted more like a potato chowder though. So next time I will add some extra clam juice and thicken it with flour if needed. All in all, this was a great recipe!

Apple Stuffed Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2007
Wonderful! I tweaked some things a bit taking advice from other reviews. I added the cinnamon and brown sugar which is a MUST and a bunch of other seasonings. This smelled delicious when I opened the lid after simmering and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it! It was very moist and most importantly it was an easy meal to make (but it looks gormet!). I will surely be saving this recipe! Thank you!
