Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
Wow...was this ever a hit at this house!!!! My hubby is a HUGE fan of chicken fried steak...that is what he orders everytime we go out to eat. He is not a big 'chicken' fan but he LOVED this one! I followed the recipe as is other than I ran out of garlic powder making a side dish with this, so instead of using salt and garlic powder I just used garlic salt. The breasts were thick, so instead of pounding them out, I just cut them in half length wise. I made a gravy to top it off. This will be requested many times at this house....I have a feeling! I myself, also enjoyed this meal thouroughly!!!

Black Bean Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
I am on this huge soup kick and I was looking for something that was low cal and had black beans in it. This is a great soup that tastes just like a taco soup with a fraction of the calories. I didnt put any meat in it but I did put some small pasta noodles in it. Delicious!!!

Real Italian Calzones

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
We have calzone night with our friends every now and again. I usually set up a 'calzone bar' so everyone can put what they want in them. This time I used this recipe. I had never tried them with the ricotta. Instead of the pepperoni, I used a pound of ground sausage and I used a mix of cheddar cheese with mozarella. I doubled the crust recipe and made 7 large single calzones with 3 mini pizzas for the kids. YummMM!!!!!!

Fried Onion Rings

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
This was the first time I had ever made onion rings. I dont like to fry food mainly because of what it makes my house smell like but these were really looking good! The beer batter was great! Be sure your onions are very dry or the batter won't stick. These had wonderful crunch and wonderful taste!

Mafioso Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
This one is rich! I made this is 2 8 inch round pans. I then cut those layers in half so I had a total of 4 layers. I frosted between all those layers and the rest of the cake...I could have used just a touch more frosting doing it this way but I worked with what I had and covered the bottom with sliced strawberries and whipped cream. I also garnished it with mint leaves for presentation and I stored this in the fridge since it was accompanied with the fruit and cream which made this even better! You won't need a big piece to get your chocolate fix! This was the ending to my italian themed dinner night....everyone loved it!

Italian Torte

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
This was a HUGE hit! I had an italian themed dinner party and I made this as an appetizer. I wanted to make crostini to go with it, but with everything else going on, I didn't have time so we settled with wheat thins crackers. Delicious! I did not have cheesecloth and I tried the coffee filter thing as another reviewer had tried. I found the filter helped get this out of the pan but once I inverted it onto a plate I just covered it with a paper towel and changed the towel every so often as needed. It did a great job soaking up the oils. I halved the recipe and put this in a mini loaf pan for the mold. I'm sure this will be requested again!

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
Truly the best! Everytime I try a new crust recipe I think that I have found "The One"....but this is it....for real this time! I used this with the "Chicago Style Stuffed Pizza" recipe and it was great. We usually make homemade pizza instead of ordering it so this will be a wonderful addition to the toppings!!!! Thank you!!!

Chicago Style Stuffed Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
I really liked this one. Although I have never had an actual Chicago pizza so I don't know how this compares. But for a great dinner that the whole family will eat, it's great! I used a different crust recipe (Bread machine pizza crust) which was outstanding by the way....and followed the recipe for the rest of this pizza. I used the idea of the springform pan (thanks...it worked great!!!!).

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
I have made this one a couple of timesow. It gets a 5 star with the small changes I made the second time around (the first time I followed the recipe as is). I used chicken broth instead of having to mess with the granules...just one less step, I added about 3/4 cup white wine to the broth and used a mix of 1 cup milk with one cup heavy cream....not the healthiest but if you are going to eat a cream based soup then why not go all out?! I then topped the finished product off with some red pepper flakes and parsley. Yum!

Cranberry-Orange Power Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
This is a great way to ingest you whey protein! If you are anything like me, you may have a hard time just mixing it in milk or water. I made a couple changes to this recipe using what I prefer and what I had on hand. I think the cranberry juice would be good but I only had apple juice. I also substituted the serbet for low fat vanilla yogurt. The blend of the strawberries, bannana and orange was wonderful! I couldn't taste even a hint of the whey (which I used the unflavored kind)!!!!! Thanks for the recipe, I now have a new lunch!!!

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
These are tasty. They are very 'hoisin' tasting though. I used romain hearts as the lettuce and sandwiched the mix between 2 pieces instead of having to try to roll the lettuce. I skipped the tofu and used ground turkey as the meat. I will make these again!

Thai Pineapple Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
This was good, it just needs a little extra and I guess I'm not sure quite yet what that 'something' is. Sushi rice is also a good option if you don't have or can't find Jasmine. They have the same sticky texture. You could probably get by with one can of coconut milk if you want to reduce the caloric count of this meal. If it needs extra fluid add some wine, broth or water. I will make this again and add some sweet chili sauce to it! Thanks for the recipe!

Thick Cut-Outs

The best! For cut-out cookies, this will now be my one and only recipe. These held their shape well and tasted great. The only change I made was I substituted the vanilla for almond...just personal preference!

Tiny Chicken Turnovers

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
Yummmm!!! I made this as it is written. I personally would not like to substitute the pastry part of this recipe unless I was in a hurry. These are a bit time consuming to make, but worth the effort. The pastry was so flaky with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The filling was so flavorful! Everyone gobbled these things up and raved about them! Maybe next time I will roll the dough out into 2 logs and roll the mix up in those, bake it, then cut it into slices...that may take some of the time out of preparation! Thank you for the tasty recipe!

This was SO easy and SO much fun! I think I will have to make this a tradition with my kids! They had just a great time playing and cutting out the dough and especially painting them! They make great little gifts for grandma's and grandpa's!

PHILLY Spicy Thai Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
This is a very unique soup! If you like butternut squash, you will probably like this soup. I served this as a side dish to 'Black Thai Pork' from this site. It was great as a side dish! I am not sure I could have it as a main meal though. It has a nice sweetness (not too much) to it. I followed the recipe as it is written, but next time I will use heavy cream in place of the cream cheese.

Baked Potato Skins

These were easy and good. I found out after baking the potatoes that I did not have green onions which would have made these even better. I used cheese, tomatoes, bacon and sour cream. The shells were good and crispy with great taste!

Three Sisters Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Ugh...I don't like giving bad reviews, I am really not a very picky eater but this did not go over well for us. I have never had Hominy before and I don't htink we are big squash lovers. I made this because it got good reviews and it was low calorie I figured I would give it a shot. I did omit the butter and flour and just pureed a big portion of the soup to thicken it up. It was good and thick. I added some extra pepper after tasting and a dash of cinnamon. Thanks for the recipe, it was worth the try but I won't be making this again.

Simple BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
These turned out great. Very soft and tender. I boiled them for about 8 minutes then placed them in the oven. I didn't make any changes to the recipe. I used a sweet BBQ sauce which gave it a little extra.
