About this Cook
I'm happiest when I am making others laugh, and if there's good food around, hey - instant party! My perfect Sunday is spending hours in the kitchen preparing a tasty, new dish (unless it's football season, then you can't get me away from the TV). I started cooking in January 2007, after entering a new relationship. The relationship is over, but my love of cooking has grown!
My favorite things to cook
When I am cooking for myself, I prefer stir fried chicken and veggies (why make a big fuss if it's only for me?). However, since I've been cooking a litte more seriously, I've found a fabulous lasagna (from the Taste of Home cookbook), an incredibly tasty sausage soup (made even better by other allrecipes.com cooks' reviews), and I just recently printed out some BBQ shrimp recipes to try ... I'll keep you posted! UPDATE: I've found a lot of great shrimp marinades .. see my reviews for favorites!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hm. I don't have too many of these. I had a wonderful southern Granny who had the best recipes for Fried Chicken with Grease Gravy and Red Velvet Cake. That's as close to family cooking traditions as I can get.
My cooking triumphs
Definitely the lasagna! Chris (mockingly) got down on one knee after just one bite! I've had success experimenting with veggies - the baked asparagus with sauteed mushrooms is probably the best one. Although my No-Fry French Fries are pretty good too (I think the sage is what makes 'em so great!). UPDATE: My ex-boyfriend flipped over Grandma Ople's Apple Pie, and started calling me his little amateur chef.
My cooking tragedies
Thankfully, I haven't had too many of these yet, and I've never had to send out for an emergency pizza. However, I am new to this, so just give me some time! I'll keep you updated on this as well... UPDATE - okay, almost had to send out for an emergency pizza after making the Szechwan Shrimp (just terrible!), but it was Halloween, so I just ate candy.

Raspberry Lemon Muffins
These muffins were delicious and very well received! I used low fat lemon yogurt, the lemon extract, and juice and zest from one medium lemon. They were perfectly lemon-y, and I have been asked to make them again.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
Wonderful potatoes! Used 1 cup skim milk, 1 cup fat free half and half, and upped the (sharp) cheddar cheese to 2 cups (it's what I had in the 'fridge). Oh, and I did mince the onion, just because I'm not used to onion rings in au gratin potatoes. Perfect comfort food. I had to cover mine for the last 40 minutes of cooking because it was getting too brown on top, and it cooked perfectly! YUM!

Dijon Crusted Halibut
Fantastic! Used tilapia instead of halibut because it's what I had handy, and panko crumbs for the topping on top of the coating for a little extra crunch. I did put the pan under the broiler for the topping to brown. Yummy, yummy fish! I served it with creamy au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach.
